Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. Hi George-Andrew:

I don't know what sort of modification you have in mind for the 28mm lens, but unless you have much better optical manufacturing facilities than I have, it sounds like a difficult task.

As for adding extension between the body and the lens, this is not going to work. At 1mm of extension, a 28mm lens will not focus beyond about 0.8 meters.

Hi Kyle:

If the 500mm Reflex is an autofocus lens, then it will fit on the 30D. If the lens is made for the manual focus Canon FD mount, it will not fit on the 30D, and there is no good way to adapt it to fit the camera. It can be used on manual focus Canons such as the T90, A1, AE1, F1, FTb, etc.

The 500/8 Reflex is a mirror lens, which uses 2 mirrors in addition to glass lenses to compress 500mm of lens into a compact, easy to handle package. It has no diaphragm, so it shoots wide open at f/8 all the time. This means there is no way to increase the very shallow depth of field, so focusing is critical; but it also means that the lens can be optimized for the aperture you're using. Mirrors have a tendency to be low in contrast, and cheap ones can be very poor performers; but good ones like the Canon can be very good lenses.

Hi,
I've got a shift OM 35mm lense which I mount on a 400D, so I don't get much of the image , also due to the crop factor.

I recently got a used full frame, and another 35mm, cause there is not an adapter to mount an OM onto a Nikon F body. The body is the KODAK DCS 14nx, and the low priced pc lense is a 35mm Schneider. The lens is on its way, has got a T2 mount. When it is going to be used on the Kodak F mount there will be an adapter between the lens and the body. This positions the lens further upfront giving it space to rotate.

Finally the Kodak has got a belly on the lower side where the battery is. This prevents a lens like the Nikkor 28mm pc from rotating 360 degrees. Since I need more of my image in the picture, and want to take advantage of the full frame body I want to get a third pc, 28mm this time on full frame. To mount the 28mm on the F mount, and for it to rotate freely I got two solutions:

1) to modify the lens in which case there will be an after-effect,that is a color shift. Note that I am not a friend of SW manipulation.

2) To use an extension ring. In this case will I be able to focus to infinity, and get the full image, let's say of a building?

KODAK DCS 14nx
NIKKOR 28mm pc f/4 (architecture photography).

Hi, can I use the new Nikon speedlights such as SB600 and SB800 on my 35mm F-801s? Are they compatible in normal TTL auto. Or can I use auto-aperture flash mode to make do photography? Please help.

Help needed please. I have the opportunity to get a Canon Reflex 500 mm lens (1:8) given to me.

I am not familiar enough to know the answer to my question, so please tell me will this lens fit on a Canon 30D??? Also, if so, can you tell me where I can find out all the details on this lens so I can learn more about it??

Thanks

Hi Jim Bob:

If you don't mind getting close, the 55/3.5 Micro Nikkor will be the most affordable, and it is an excellent performer. The 105/4.0 Micro Nikkor will let you shoot from a greater distance for a similar shot. For the FM2 you will need the AI version of either lens, or one that has been converted to AI specifications.

There are also later versions, the 55/2.8 and 105/2.8 Micro Nikkors, which are a bit faster, a bit higher in contrast but will also cost more. I believe these only came in AI and later specs so there should be no worries about compatibility. All of these lenses focus to 1:2 magnification, which means that a 2" x 3" rectangle will fill the entire frame at the closest focus distance.

I have a Soligor 135/2 in Canon FD mount, it is one impressive looking lens but I don't shoot Canon.
I've scoured the internet for info on the Soligor 135/2 lens and while I haven't found much , what I have found is very positive.
However, I've not come across this lens anywhere in Canon FD mount.
Do any of you use this beauty?

I own a Nikon FM2 (FM@2n) (manual focus)
I am interested in taking close shots of insects. (real close)
I am looking for recommendations for a lense.
If anyone can offer advice with what ballpark figure that I may be looking at, it will be greatly appreciated

Also, if anyone offers advice for film speed and settings, it would also be appreciated. I have looked at Wikipedia's pages for macro photography and related links and have some understanding of how available focal length is dependent on aperature, light, and especially related lense size being proportional to available focal length (larger mm = larger focal length). Just any help will be appreciated.
-thank you
