Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia has no Guestbook on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. But if you want to leave a note on your experience visiting this site, you may use the MIR's MIR Guestbook | instead.

****** To Chaba ******* The two versions of the AF 80-200 f2.8 ED lens are of the same optical design. So, except for sample variation, optically these two lenses are identical. The later one with tripod collar weights 1300gm, and the earlier version is a tad lighter. The collar is not detachable and thus a little awkward when used hand held. It has separate rings for zooming and focussing. The earlier version is more comfortable when hand held, but rendered the camera front heavy when mounted to a tripod via the camera body. You'll need a sturdy tripod for this combination. It has a one-touch ring, where you turn the ring for focussing and push-pull for zooming. Which is better? You decide! Try it out yourself before you decide. Oh, one more thing, buy the lens hood (HB-7), if you have decided to own one of these lenses. It is the cheapest way to improve your images.

I realized that most photographers tend to pursue perfection. Some by means of polishing their technique (MLU, cable lock up etc), by anticipating the decisive moments, by paying out most attention to the lighting, by being meticulous with the composition etc etc. Some photographers chase perfection by getting the sharpest lenses money can buy, the most frame per second camera, the fastest AF body, by changing camera system forth and back etc etc. Does it sound familiar? :-)) My point is that one need not owned the best camera and best lenses to produce good and heart moving pictures. But you do need to know your equipment to obtain the most out of it. This lenses MB provides a forum for the photographers to exchange their experience and idea on lenses, and provide information for those seeking for clarification. No one lens is perfect (not even Leica), each has its merits and shortcoming. Using the right lens for the right occasion will give you higher percentage of usable images. So, please stay on course and going back to the discussion of lenses.

It appears to me that the unfortunate and endless debate of "is brand X better than brand Y and Z" had recently find its way in the lenses MB. May I suggest that for those who derive satisfactions and enjoyment on this issue, to subscribe to the various photography newsgroups, where I guarantee you there will be no lack of action and bashing. Lets get back to lenses. Thank you.

Hi Folks! I have a question about the ¨Nikon 80-200 f/2.8 D¨ lens. If somebody knows what is the difference between the tripod mounted and the other version, please contact me. I guess the one with the tripod mount is twist stile, not pull-push... which is better?

Is this an "E" lens? It says, "Nikkor 50mm 1:18 428xxxx Nikon". It has no "rabbit ears. It does not say "Series E". It does not say "AF" or Auto Focus. This lens has all appearance of Series E, but does not say it is. Please help identify this type. Thanks.

Hey folks, photography is not all about Canon and Nikon... What about the others ? If you guys want to relates to technologies, the original TTL flash used in the Olympus OM-2n was only imitated by Nikon in 1980 with their F3, and worst still for Canon in the T-90 very late in 1986! The IDM system is still unchallenged (Pentax LX came close to 'duplicate') since it was introduced in 1975. Lenses ? Have the Nikkor or the EF lenses came with 21mm f2.0 since the Zuiko lens have been introduced with the OM-1 in 1972 ? !!!.

Nikkors are not all greats, particulary the cheap zooms, 28-200, 70-300 etc, and also the 50mm f1.4 is disappointing sometimes, escpecially when blown up to 10R size. is there any other better options in 35mm? Leica?

I have a Nikon FG, and I am looking for a 100 X 300 zoom lens for it, or one that is compatible for it. Could someone tell where I could get such a lens, or one that is compatible for my camera. Also, the flash unit for my camera doesn't work any longer, and would like to replace that with one compatible for my camera. Thanks

I am just an user but I don't think I am a follower. The PIM site took me almost 1-1/2 year to construct and I do hope it can help and patch some of the vacumm left on the Network on issues in relation to SLR cameras. The time spent on this purpose is not to please a proub owner who likes to hear good things about the system he owns. Some of the remarks made in the respective sites was purely from point of view of a consumer. Creating a reasonably informative site required a lot of research and knowledge (I have picked up a lot of things that I didn't know previously and absorbing many others along the way). Just like the Canon FD mount website @ http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/canon/fdresources/SLRs/index.htm of which it took 3 months from the start to go 'live'. But SLR camera has a history that is 'elder' than me, and I hope you don't get the impression that this should be my obligation to ensure all you want to see will pop out on your compter screen. I don't like to do half-baked cakes and I want to enjoy what I am doing right now. The development progress is may be slow, because I have only a pair of slow hand to type, scanned and editing what I want to share with a simple HTML program. So, I think instead of complaining, I would suggest that you come forward and help to create a new site or just go and visit any of the respective official sites of the camera or lens manufacturer. Strange to see nowadays that there are still someone out there interested in finding out which system is better. If you have already invested into one, why bothers about what others are using or how was it performing ? Neither I am here trying to influent someone to shift system - that is definitely not my objective or priority of creating this site. I am just interested in photography, camera and lenses are just the medium to convey and bridge how I feel, that is all.

Hi, I need really honest opinion about Canon versus Nikon. I just want to know is it Canon glass inferior to Nikon. If yes, how can you tell the diffrence between superior and inferior glasses. In this website I read many stuffs about Nikon and mention a little bit about Canon. Like you describe Nikon super zoom, but you didn't mention anything about Canon 1200 mm. I read your review about Canon's T&S lenses, and I did like it. I hope I'm not hurting your feeling, but I think Canon need little bit appraisal in this side after this company contributions to the photography world (USM, IS, EYC, etc). Nikon had great past contribution to the photography, but now Canon has changed Nikon Role in photography.
