Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..
Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. My current "arsenal" includes: Nikon F90x (W/ MB-10 and MF-26), SB-27, SB-28, SU-4, AF24mmF2.8D, AF50mmF1.8(N), AF28-70mm F3.5-4.5, AF80-200mm F2.8D ED-IF. *ahem* and now onto the -point- of this message. I'm wondering what my next lens purchase should be... I'm thinking an 85/1.4 but that makes my 80-200 (which I prize) somewhat redundant... and at 3 months old, i don't want that to happen - SO I'm thinking the other end of the spectrum, maybe a fixed 35/2.0 (2.8?) or else a 20mmF2.8. Suggestions? If I get a 300 then I'll definately wait for the 300/4D ED-IF-AF-S (or whatever) because the current 300/4 seems to be getting just a little older than my likes. Otherwise I may get a 300/2.8 non-AF-S. Basically would those of you reading this suggest I go towards the long end (300/400mm) or to the wide end (16/20mm)? Thanks and I appreciate any comments. ;-) Regards, AD2. From : A.L.ESPIRITU (blah@sprint.ca)

Hello, I just bought a Canon FD 135/2.0 brandnew in the box. The lens works fine but I think it is in need of some lubrication as the ball bearings of the aperture mechanism are absolutely "dry" and rattle when I shake the lens. Or is that normal? What would be the right stuff for lubricating, if nessecary? I would greatly appreciate any help on this matter! I also like to share some experience about this lens. Anybody owns one? Thank you. FOR DON CARSON: Canon Series IX filters are special purpose skylight or UV types made especially for Canon's super telephoto lenses of 300mm and longer, including the 200mm f/1.8L (both the FD and EF versions) focal lengths. They are also available for certain FD or EF lenses. Check with your local Canon office for the availability of the Series IX filter for your FD 85-300mm zoom lens. FOR COM AUGUSTO STAUT: Nikon claims that its EL-Nikkor lenses are among the best avaialble but a friend of mine, who has been working in the enlarging and E6 processing business for the past 25 years, advised against using any older EL-Nikkor lenses made prior to 1990 because they are not as good as their European counterparts.6. To: C Chambers - Same question was asked in the Nikkormat MB for an FTN model, In the case of your Nikkormat FT, Yes, it accepts any AI or AI-S lenses - Provided the lens has the meter coupling shoe (Rabbit Ears) atop the aperture ring. However, the E series lenses (Virtually ALL AF Nikkors lenses have omitted the meter coupling shoe and they cannot coupled with the meter in the FT eventhough they are regarded as AIS lens in general) has no meter coupling shoe anymore (Theoretically, you can add one - but not viable and practical) for you to use on any of your old non-AI bodies and retaining the metering function. Please note your Nikkormat FT has only an average meter (NOT the popular Nikon center-weighted type metering) and the minimum F value is set by hand, thus, please be very careful when you meter the subject in high contrast scenes. In relation to your question regarding differences between AI and Non-AI Nikkor lenses, I think there is a section in this site covers your question asked: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/nikonfmount/lens2.htm8. Hi, Currently i have a Nikon N70 and 35-80 f4-5.6 AF-D and a 80-200 f4.5-5.6 AF-D. I would like to use a teleconverter, which teleconverter will be suitable for both the lenses. I would like to have a reach upto 600mm. So i ve planned to buy a 70-300 f4.5-5.6 AF-D, if i buy TC201 can i use that with the above lenses and what is the maximum focal length i could obtain without image distorsion.I need your suggestions in this regard since i'm new to teleconverters. Thanks Rajin10. From : Com. Somebody knows the difference between the "old" El-Nikkor 50mm F2.8 and the "N" (new?) version of the same lens? And if the Nikkor enlarging lens are better or equals the other famous brands? TIA.
