Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. Hello Claudel: I suppose you probably have a Praktica that takes screw-mount lenses, although possibly one of the later ones with a bayonet mount. In either case, your options for a good zoom lens will be quite limited. In the screw mount, the best lenses were those made by Pentax; but Pentax quit making screw mount cameras in 1975, and that was very early in the evolution of zoom lens design. Modern zoom lenses have improved quite a lot since they stopped making them in that mount. If you don't mind a zoom of mid-1970s technology, though, you can find them .... they are not necessarily bad, but they are not likely to be as contrasty as a good modern zoom, and they will be larger and heavier. Look for a Pentax, Tamron, or 'Vivitar Series One' brand.

If you can live without a zoom, there are many very good lenses that will fit a screw mount camera. High quality macro, telephoto and wide angle lenses are fairly easy to find on eBay - look particularly for the Pentax brand for the best quality. If you have a bayonet mount camera, your choices will be more limited, as I don't believe this mount was shared by other brands or supported by third-party lens manufacturers.

This forum is good and seems questions are answered. May I ask a question too, I have been always longing for a good lens for a camera (model: Practica), what will be the chance to get a zoom lens for candid, travel and not so expensive ? I like to take close up of little things around my garden too. My friend told me there are not many choices for my camera. I mean good ones. Thank you.

love from Montpellier.

Ref Q on: -Lens Mount Adapter (Pentax/Canon): Here are a few links:

You didn't mentioned The actual mount for the Pentax and/or Canon. Most +entax mount are referring to Screw-Mount (M42).

Dear brother Luigi/Walter: Thanks for reverting. After went through more pages, I think I'd rather send the slides for service lab for duplications. But I am thinking to get an IF-ED 200mm Micro-Nikkor for personal use. The page on the lens was good and informative. Thanks those who had created these.

Erbaha: the lens to choose actually depends on what kind of subject you need to photograph - and what magnification you need. Shorter focals will yield higher magnification, but will require shorter shooting distances too. Longer focals vice versa.
Usually macro lenses perform better because they are optimized for it (normal lenses may perform better if mounted reversed), and there are a few lenses designed to be used on bellows only.

Technically speaking the Medical Nikkor of that 1962 model was the first AUTO flash by Nikon. The built-in flash acted as an electronic flash. It is even earlier than the AUTO-Nikkor 45mm GN mentioned at http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/nikkoresources/special/GN45mm.htm ut I am not too familiar with how it works with the Bellow (Sorry). yes. I agree with most comment, this is a great page.

Sorry. I am using Nikon system as the basic. The page here have some very good info on the oldies such as the Bellow Nikkor http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/nikkoresources/micronikkor/Bellow-Nikkor/index.htm I assume those are manual set lenses. Can the medical Nikkor be used ? The few here at the http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/nikkoresources/special/250medical.htm stating it can be used independently but can there be use with a Bellow unit as well ? The Medical Nikkor has a built-in speedlite ? Sure ?

My philosophy is not so complicated. Just a hobby, brother. Q: Anyone has a guide to how to use or select good lens for Bellow /Macro photography ? Are shorter mount lenses better than, say a tele-macro ?

Strange to find a mix of every brands here in a forum (but GOOD & interesting for knowledge base). I was a Minolta "rebel" to Canon, started with an EOS 50E and was again dropped, changed to Nikon (using a D200 now). Don't ask me why, may be mentally too weak and was influenced by too many reads. Years ago, I read about back in the '70 Ashahi Pentax attempt to introduced a universal mount where brands can interchange with each other. It failed for obvious reasons due to financial conflicts. It was supposed to be an ideal solution for consumers. Over the years, I think finally learn the stupid fact I am not entirely or will be a great photographer. Today, Minolta trade name is a history despite they started with a big bang in the '80 with such great models such as X700, MAXXUM 7000/9000 etc. it was a sad corporate story. 30+ years has gone, big names Kodak and Fuji faced difficulties, they have a standard such as Flash cards, SD and SDHD cards etc. The "standard" mount for all still remains a distance dream... just a XXX-up thought !

No origin, no mail and no contact.

A followed up post from the earlier thread: Not quite. I think her weakness is with the auto everything Canon T50. The rise of digital imaging has made film based system extremely CHEAP and AFFORDABLE. I have search Ebay for an original FD telephoto 135mm f.2.8 for 59-00; FD 80-200mm f/4.0 Zoom for 75-00; Macro 200mm f/4.0 for 58-00; a wide angle FD 24mm f/2.8 for just 29.90.. and a real bargain of an FDn 24mm f/2.0 for current bid 11.50 (1 day left ) ! See http://cgi.ebay.com/BARGAIN-FAST-Canon-24mm-1-2-Wide-Angle-FD-mount-Lens_W0QQitemZ350016041637QQihZ022QQcategoryZ48552QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem while a mighty Canon T90 only with currentl calling price between USD70 ~ 110-00 - who needs a digital compact now ? The real question is: how serious are you or just need a camera for something casual- the latter user group can just buy a simple D-compact, the G9 is too serious for that price brothr. Peace too !
