Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia has no Guestbook on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. But if you want to leave a note on your experience visiting this site, you may use the MIR's MIR Guestbook | instead.

Not finding any info on this lens on this site I wonder if anyone can provide same? The Lens: Nippon Kogaku, Nikkor-S Auto, f=5.8cm 1:1.4, Serial No. 153745. It came on the Nikon F (circa late '59 early '60) I purchased used in '62. It came with the original hood.

Hello folks. I have just acquired a Tokina ATX 300mm F2.8 manual focus for FD (breechlock as usual). I know the reputation of the lens, having owned ATX models before. However, I purchased this one in WHITE. It's a factory finish. The shade is also in white. I had not realised that it was available in this colour, having only ever seen black before.

Was it ever officially available outside Japan? I am thinking not but my experience would only be for the UK.

Rgds

Peter

hi Leah:

Asanuma is an aftermarket brand that makes lenses for a variety of camera brands. What brand of camera did your parents use? Does the lens fit on the Nikon? If it does, you can use it. If it does not fit, you are not likely to find an adapter to make it fit.

Asanuma lenses are not equal to Nikon lenses, but it might be perfectly adequate for normal purposes. If it fits, give it a try and see if you like it.

Hi, Any suggestions on how to clean lenses infected with fungus? Or any reliable service center in Bangalore,India? Also wanted to know if the light source in a Cabin light panel can be replaced (CL 5000 P ) which was dropped accidently. Thanks Dipti.

AG, You have unscrewed the bayonet ring stopper. The stopper must be retainer in/on the lens barrel, whilst the bayonet ring is screwed back on. The only problem being, that the ring has to be in the correct position to lock the lens onto the mount.

Hold the lens with the rear element/mount facing you, with the aperture/focus datum line at 12 o'clock. If you now look on the side of the mount, between approx 6 and 10 o'clock, you will see a 'slot'. The leg of the stopper runs in this 'slot'.

Retain stopper in the slot with a dab of heavy grease. (I normally place the stopper in end of slot nearest datum line, this being correct position of 'assembly' when lens is off body.) Carefully screw on bayonet ring, check for correct position by mounting on body. (An extension ring is the ideal gauge.) Remove the lens, making sure you keep the red dot adjacent to the datum line at all times. Using a fine screwdriver, align the holes in the ring with threaded holes in stopper and insert screws. Do not over-tighten these screws, they can easily strip.

Canon FD (28mm) problem. Hi all, I have a problem with the lens. The thing is I have been stupid enough to unscrew two tiny screw on the breech-lock ring (aluminium one). Now I have a small piece that was held by the timy screws. I am not sure where it fits on the inside of the lens( http://homepages.slingshot.co.nz/~zenitspb/canon/breeck-lock.jpg ). Anyone ever removed the breech-lock ring ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
