Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..
Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. Eric/Tresa: you've been given an excellent camera, one of the best ever made by Canon. About the zoom, you didn't tell us what brand it is and the like - Canon made an FD 85-300/4.5 which is a good lens that works without problems with the T90. There is also a FL 85-300/5, a good lens belonging to an earlier range of Canon lenses. Although a T90 can use FL lenses -mechanically the mount is the same- FL lenses lack some features (i.e. full aperture metering) that won't allow to exploit the T90 fully, it was designed to take full advantage of FD lenses. There are also several lenses not made by Canon, and their quality may can vary a lot, depending on the manufacturer.2. From : CLAUDEL (prefer_private@mailcity.com)

Thank you Mr. Rick and JWoods. You both are very helpful (Never seriously thought anyone would help me earlier). At least I know how to think about the choices - even if there is not many. Once again, Thank You ! This board is useful !3. From : Eric/Tresa (bothparts_99@hotmail.com)

I was given a Canon slr camera (T90), it comes with two lenses and an electronic flash gun. The lens is a 24mm and a 200mm as mentioned in your site. I was scouting for a zoom for the camera. I have found this big (but very cheap) Canon zoom 85-300mm 1:5, a friend told me it doesn't work very well the camera (no reason given). Wondering if this is true.4. From : james (add@yourboard.com)

Added to Firdaus explanation. Personally, I think one important aspect to consider is, the 55-200mm zoom lens should have a wideangle lens as supplement. IF not, the 55mm is just too narrow for general use. May be a 28mm prime lens is good enough. Nikon has a series of some excellent fixed focal length 28mm primes to consider.5. This is an AF confirm / IS enable chip is an emulator of camera such as an Olympus AF lens. Sold Separately (e.g. M42-4/3, OM-4/3, Nikon – 4/3, Contax-4/3, Leica-4/3, etc. ) It is an electronic device that will "trick" the Olympus camera to activate 2 great features:- (1) with AF confirmation indicator, and (2) with Image stabilizer. It has been tested successfully on Olympus E-300, E-330, E-500, E-400, E-410, E-510, E-3 However, it is NOT compatible with E-1 This chip could be easily installed onto any Olympus 4/3 adapters - Do visit our website :- http://store.tagotech.com/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=140 -- any enquiry, do drop us an email. - Paul6. Esmail: I know based on the spec sheet given, the group 2 has a more impressive data sheet such as focuses closer, 2 ED glass, 9 blades, diaphragm, and even more compact/lighter and comes with a larger aperture/mag ratio; however, I would still suggest you to select the lens A. It is a more refined zoom than the latter. Truth is, the lens A is a newer version. It has one thing probably you didn't take notice, VR. That is why even the aperture is smaller, it should provide a more stable shots if light is dim. Frankly, f/3.5 and f/4.3 doesn't always means too big of a difference. Personally, I don't quite like the 13/9 lens, the physical built quality is not there (but if the priority is light weight, then it may suit you in this area, but lightweight and quality doesn't always co-exist). Last point, I am not sure how much do the two lenses compare in their price. If the difference is minor, lens A with the VR feature (vibration reduction) should be a better choice.7. From : A. I am looking to purchase a Nikon 55-200mm AF lens for my digital Nikon D80. The 2 lenses I am looking at have the following specification:

15 elements in 11 groups (1 ED glass element)
Closest focusing distance: 1.1m (through the entire focal range)
Maximum reproduction ratio: 1/4.3
Focal-length scale: 55, 70, 85, 105, 135, 200mm
Number of diaphragm blades: 7 (rounded)
Dimensions: 73.0 x 99.5 mm
Weight: 335 grams
Lens 2: (same as above with the following differences)
13 elements in 9 groups (2ED glass elements)
Closest focusing distance: 0.95m
Maximum reproduction ratio: 1/3.5
Number of diaphgram blades: 9

I use my camera primarily for photographing my children at home and on vacation. Which lens is best suited for my camera?

Thanks J! My Hungarian (and my Czech too) is pretty rusty, but luckily they printed the photos in English.
Claudel, I'm afraid the only options for you are likely to be the Prakticar lenses (and possibly a few others) made for the Praktica bayonet, or else you may find an adapter to use older screw mount lenses from other makers Doing a quick search on eBay, I fould only one zoom lens in your mount at the moment:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Praktica-Bayonet-Mount-80-200mm-f-4-0-Zoom-Works-EX-NR_W0QQitemZ230180518093QQihZ013QQcategoryZ707QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQtrksidZp1638.m118.l1247QQcmdZViewItem
This is a Japanese made lens and may be pretty good, I have no way of knowing I'm afraid.
With 35mm SLR prices as low as they are now, I think that by the time you have found and bought a lens or two to fit your Praktica, you might have been able, for the same money, to buy a working camera in another brand that would have a greater range of lenses available.9. The Illustration in the manual suggest it has a bayonet mount but M42 lenses can be used via an adapter.10. The camera model (Practica) name is B100, with electronic. I am not sure if it is a "screw" mount as mentioned. THANK YOU, Mr. Rick.
