Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia has no Guestbook on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. Canon A1 bayonet vs. breech mount

I own a Canon A1 with the bayonet mounting system and lenses, I am trying to buy additional lenses and am wondering if a breech mount lens will fit my bayonet mount A1 body ?

Chetan - Canon made an adpater, made in very small numbers, that allowed an FD lens to be mounted in an EOS body. Because the flange to mirror distance is longer in an EOS body, a straight mechanical adapter is not enough; it had to incorporate a lens to focus at the longer distance. I think it had a magnification factor of about 1.2 - that means a 100mm FD lens mounted with the adapter had a new focal length of 120mm. Also the lens was manual focus only, used on an auto-focus body. I don't remember how it handled stopping down; electronic contacts to mechanical levers. I think it is not very practical. Very rarely you will see one on eBay; I don't remember the selling price.

Hi I have a broken canon FTb (film advance gear broken) along with a few FD lenses (FD 35-105MM, f3.5) and am searching for a new body. I have heard that the new EOS series cannot take FD lenses without an adapter. Are you aware whether an adapter exists for the lens to be fitted on EOS? If so how much would it cost?

Thanks

Gregory: Try Adorama: http://www.adorama.com/skudooraid003925.tpl?sku=CA5018AF
Look under Used equipment - canon - lenses - page5
They have both Breech lock and new lenses. Prices from $64 - $149
I would recomand one of the more expencive Breech lock lenses.

I own a Noct-Nikkor 58mm F1.2 (AI). Recently, I considered upgrading to AIs. However, I'm not sure I'm doing the right thing. I heard from friends that the Noct-Nikkor AI version has better resale value than the AIs version and it's now collector's item. Is that true ??

Should I keep the AI model and get a 2nd hand AIs ?

Welcome any suggestions
