Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..
Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. "..Canon FD 85-300mm f4.5, What is the chrome peg on the zoom ring for?...". It serves as a lock to secure when the lens is mounted on to the camera. Hi Shelvin:
The Zeiss nikon-mount lenses are apparently equivalent to Nikon's "AIS" series of manual focus lenses. They work with manual metering and aperture priority in the D1, 2, 3, 200 or 300 series cameras. In the D40, 50, 70, 80 and 100 series, the lenses will fit but the light meter will not function.3. From : shelvin (ques@tion.com)

I am equally felt lost for a friend that I have never meet before too. Ken has been with the T90, T & A series and the lenses board very actively for the last 8-10 years answering whatever questions and doubt on those Canon bodies/lenses. We have been exchanging many mails privately and I have very high regards on his wealth of knowledge on photography as well as hardware too.
It is certainly not a very nice feeling to know this and all the boards herein will surely miss his passion and caring inputs from here on...6. From : Robert (cadmccarty@sbcglobal.net)

Hi Jason:
I'm afraid this appears to be true. According to the San Francisco Chronicle of April 13, Ken died on April 4 after a car accident.
In the internet age we become friends with people who we never actually meet, and if we only communicate occasionally it's possible for something like this to happen without our hearing of it for some time. That is sad... on the other hand, it is this medium that made it possible for us to know Ken at all, and we are all richer for that. He will be missed.
Here is a short exerpt from the Chronicle:
Mr. Durling, a longtime Bay Area musician, composer and beloved teacher to hundreds of student musicians, died April 4 of injuries sustained in a car accident while vacationing in Northern California. He was 54.8. From : Jason (sure@photosite.com)

On September of the year 2000 Canon announced the current 400mm f/4 L USM DO IS. They compared its size with the size of a 400mm f/4 L non-DO...wich has never been commented and must be a prototype.

Is there a Nikkor 14mm non AF-S version ? I seen a used lens that doesn't have the traditional gold ring but not so sure and ask this (since this place has a lot of answers). Thanks.
