Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. Hi Crash: No. But if you'll scroll down about 2 inches you'll see information about an adapter to allow them to be used.

Question: L-Series lenses. I have three lenses for my A1 The Zoom is a FD 100-300 5.6, there's also a 28mm and a 50mm Question is: will these lenses fit a Canon Digital Rebel XT 8.0 MP new camera? It'd sure be nice. Please email me, as I might not get back to this board for a bit.

Hi Newto: This adapter is all over eBay, typically for about $40. Be aware that, in addition to obviously not having autofocus, you also lose auto diaphragm operation. Also, there is a lens in the adapter to permit the lens to focus to infinity: this changes the effective length of the lens (it gets a bit longer), and it also has some effect on image quality. It makes it possible to use your FD lenses, but results will not be as good as if you had used them on an FD body.

Robin~ I am a beginner so all I can tell you about the Sigma 18mm FD lens is that it's probably for an older fully manual Canon. It's a wide angle lens. And it seem like it's fairly "fast" if it's has a max. aperature of f/2.8. If it's limited to going to f/3.5 then you will limit your depth of field. Unless it goes up to say f/11 or f/16. Also, is it a fixed 18mm or is it an 18-50mm or 18-55mm, which would give you a little bit more flexibility. Hope this helps you in some way.

Does anyone know where I could find a converter/adaptor for FD lenses to fit an EF accepting Canon camera?

Hello, I have an Asahi Takumar 500mm f5 to f 16 with a m42 mount. I have looked and looked and can not find when this lens was made. I find a Takumar 500mm f5 to f22 but not the f16 lens. There is one listed but it has a M37 mount. It is a 1950's lens. Any idea on finding this out when this lens was made? Thanks, Steve Pruetz

I have got the option to buy an old sigma 18 mm lens (FD mount). It has internal filters. The aperture ring go's down to 2.8, but lens itself only go's to 3.5. Does anyone know anything about the lens. Thanks.

Looking for a suggestion as to the use of filters with the Olympus 40mm lens. I have a problem with the aperture tigtening/locking up on me, making the use of the aperture settings almost impossible with a properly mounted 49mm lens filter. I find myself loosening the lens filter, making the aperture adjustment, tightening the lens filter. Someone suggested the length of the tread is too long, causing the aperture ring to expand along its circumference when a 49mm lens filter is properly seated on the lens. Are lens filters made with shallower treads than currently available? Is there a particular make of lens filter I need to keep an eye open for to help resolve this particular problem?
