Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. Ref:- I am not sure what do you meant by Not close enough.. basically macro photography is all about magnification ratio. The EF MACRO (100mm f/2.8 AFD/USM) can close focus down to approx. .0.31m approx. 1.0 ft but the impressive part is the Maximum Magnification which offers 1X (1:1). The between subject/lens distance is actually why we are looking for a tele-macro instead of 50mm standard lens rance. Compare to old day of FD which you require a extender to reach 1:1 The EF MAcro is more comfortable to work with. Well, I guess you can use an extender to go beyond 1X life size.

Some may treat the 20mm UD Auto-Nikkor las collectible, there is someone trying to dispose his a few rounds of re-listing at USD379-00 that is more expensive than the classic Nikkor 20mm f/2.8S. http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&dfsp=32&from=R10&_trksid=m37&satitle=NIKKOR+20mm&sacat=-1%26catref%3DC6&floc=1&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D2&sadis=200&fpos=ZIP%2FPostal&sabfmts=1&saobfmts=insif&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&fsop=32%26fsoo%3D2

Can someone tell me what a Nikon NIKKOR-UD Auto 1:35 f=20mm lens is worth? And maybe who might be interested in buying it? My name is Cass at norcalbizjour@yahoo.com. Thank you in advance.

Just to satisfy my curiosity: A Q for the Gurus here- Why Nikon, Olympus and Pentax can't have a super lens such as f/1.0 (or other f/1.2 tele) like the Canon L ? Is it something to do with the diameter of the lens mount ?? Or simply because they don't intend and not they can't ..?

Blee, what adapter are you using? Because there are three of them:

1) The Canon 1.2x adapter. It is an extented working as an adapter. It was made for telephoto lens and due to its protruding optical element it works only on lenses that can accept it.
2) The Canon FD-EOS macro adapter. Made to use FD macro accesories on EOS bodies. Due to the lack of optics to accomodate the larger film-to-lens distance of the EOS bodies, it won't allow non-EF lens to focus at infinity, thereby it's useful only for macrophotography.
3) Several adapters, not made by Canon, to use FD lenses on EOS bodies. They should accept most R/FL lenses too, I guess, because the mount is compatible, but I never had one to test with.

Can someone tell me if I can use an old 1966 Canon FT lens on a current Canon EOS body when using the FD -> EOS bayonet lens adapter?

Please email me.

Hi Ken:

My Nikon F is meterless, but as I recall the meter prisms took two PX625 mercury cells. Mercury cells are no longer made, but there is an alkaline equivalent, the Duracell A625, that is easy to find. You may find that these are acceptable for your purposes, but metering accuracy will not be as good as with the original batteries.

The best solution is to buy two MR9 battery adapters from CRIS:
http://criscam.com/products_services/mercury_battery_adapters/
These cost $20-30 each, so it's not cheap, but they make a modern silver cell fit the camera and also change its output voltage to match the original mercury cell.

I would try the alkalines first, and then invest in the CRIS adapters if you find your metering accuracy is not good enough.
