Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..
Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. Can anyone discuss advantages and disadvantages of breechlock versus bayonet mount for FD lenses? can you suggest a source/link for such a comparison? I am in the market for additional lenses for my F-1. Thanks JC2. From : Bill C. (res0ab30@verizon.net)

Looking to trade, buy, or just receive (I'll pay postage and Xerox costs, of course) for Canon FD lenses...lenses have been carried about and also set a spell...have some looseness around focusing rings and some element looseness in number of my canon and vivitar S1 lenses - want to have them fixed but the cost here is outrageous. Specifically, Canon 50mm 1.2 Aspherical, Canon 85mm 1.2 (both FD), Vivitar S1 90mm Macro, and Vivtar S1 135mm 2.3 I'm asuming that the Canon manual(s) would teach me about the guts of the Vivitar lenses. please email if you can help to res0ab30@verizon.net...no advice...I need the manuals... (or a URL that I can get them from...html, text, PDF file, and any Mac-specific text-handling format - if you have to use Windoze, I'd still appreciate it, as I can translate pretty much anything to Mac format. I'd appreciate it and so would my wallet. best regards:bill3. From : fred (kokopeds@yahoo.com)

Hi Hans: Look at the back edge of the aperture selector ring of your old Nikkor, and compare it to your camera's normal lens. If there are no steps or ridges on the back of the aperture ring, it is a "Non-AI" lens, which couples to the meter only through the pin-in-fork coupler. Because your FG does not have this coupler, it thinks your lens is wide open, regardless of the aperture you've selected. It will give accurate exposures only at the f/2.8 aperture setting. It is also possible for a Non-AI lens to damage the plastic coupling ring on the FG body, so I would be extremely cautious about mounting it on the camera. It is possible to convert the lens to AI, which will solve both of these problems. Check with dealers and repair shops in your area. This will probably cost somewhere around the equivalent of $25-50 US. rick :)=5. From : Hans de Vries (H.de.Vries@ibas.nl)

NIKON FG + (OLD) NIKKOR 135MM/2.8 = PROBLEMS ?
I use a Nikon FG with an (old) Nikkor 135mm/2.8 lens. This lens was used on a Nikkormat (before it was stolen...). The lens performs well (most of the times I use the P-mode on the FG) but some times some of the pictures I take are underlighted (to dark). Expessialy during summer in the mountains with much sunshine the results were not stable (good picture/bad picture/etc.). I guess the problem has something to do with compatibility of the old lens and the newer body under difficult conditions. Is there someone who can help me solving this problem?6. hi robert: often you can get good prices on Non-AI nikkor lenses, as most people are looking for the AI models which you don't need for your Nikomat. i got a 200/4 for $50 US in average condition, $100 should get a pretty nice one. the 105/2.5 and the 55 micro are among the nicer lenses.... :)=8. Hello all, I'm trying to assemnble a basic kit for daily shooting. So fare it's an Nikomat body (which is presently having the buffer and seals replaced and the meter adapted for 1.5v. The mould on the screen and the prism has to come off also) with a 50mm f2 F. I am thinking about buying a 200mm Q f4 but they want $375 Australian which seems way to much. I would really appreciate any feedback on the pearls of nikon lens's that I might actually be able to afford. I have also picked a a peculiar Hanimex 135mmm f 3.5 which looks very f Nikon but (as yet untested) promises little by reputation. any and all comment welcome9.
