Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..
Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. It is good to have such a useful website on cameras/lenses. I never know Nikon had that 80-200mm f/2.8 in manual focus. Previously I heard so much on the old classic of 80/200 f/4.5 and f/4.0 Ais. Thank for sharing all these useful info. GREAT !2. From : Nills (reply@yourQestion.com)

For the Nikkor manual a good source is to check Craigcamera.com, they sell used/ photo copies of manuals (for cameras/lenses). Don't know if this helps.3. From : Niklaus (yo_yo8301@hotmail.com)

I am glad that finally someone is compiling a site for the rangefinder Nikkor. I can read it is just an initial effort but I can see it will turn out into another good site. It is also good to note that you are also trying to compile the mysterioius Ultra-MICRO Nikkor lens series. GOODï¼Lyon4. From : Tim Witt (timwitt3402@ya2hoo.com)

Thank you so much for putting together info on older Canon cameras. I still use my Canon FT-QL, bought in 1968, black body (unusual in those days) with 50mm f1.4 and 135mm f2.5 lenses, and Tamron 2x converter. I also have the Canon Booster light meter, but haven't used it in 30 years!
As you said, the photo is the important thing, not the latest most expensive DSLR (though it's nice to have one).
Thanks again for your work!

I recently bought an used Nikon 75-300 4.5-5.6 - but came w/o its manual. Already tried Nikon - to no avail.
Does anyone here know of a site were I could get either (a) a hardcopy, or (b) a PDF, or (c) JPEG scan of said manual?
Or if anyone does have the lens and is willing to sell the manual - ping me at my email address :)
Much Appreciated !

Hi. Nice forum. I am from HK. I do have a F1n with Navy too. It comes with two lenses also have such a marked US navy). But seriously don't know do they have collecter value. Next, my 200mm FDN has a dropped out front filter ring, whcih makes the front lens element loosen, any suggestion ?my Leica 35mm f/1.4 Titan also has that problem and it is not fixed yet (the local Leica distributor charged me for HK$3600-00 just to replace the front ring to hold on the front lens element - that was not my fault..). sick....8. I have one of the 135mm US Navy lenses; it's an interesting curiosity, but as Glenn suggests, it is not considered rare or valuable. I bought my 135 from a large, reputable used camera dealer for $25.9. From : Robert Glenn Middleton (the_redd_groyne@hotmail.co.uk)

There is not much to tell - just a normal FD lens supplied to the US Navy. You should note however that some of the FD lenses supplied to the US Navy had a small modification done - The focus was pegged at infinity. I have seen this on 50, 100 and 135 lenses, but not on the 200/2.8. I suspect that the 'fixed' focus lenses were for use on board aircraft, so there could be a fixed version of the 200mm out there. Some people try to sell these lenses at a premium, I cannot think why - in general these optics have seen heavy use as the numbers supplied were small. There were not vast quantities of unused lenses sitting in stores, waiting to be issued when the FD mount was superceded.10.
