Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..
Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia has no Guestbook on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. Hi David: Yes, you can. If you're using the meter in the camera, you'll have to meter stopped down as the FL lens lacks the necessary coupling linkages for open aperture metering; other than that, it works fine. The only exception I can think of would be a lens made specifically for the Pellix, which would not clear the mirror of any other camera..... but those won't be common.2. Hi LN: My personal advice would be to spend some time with the normal 50mm lens. If you don't already have one of those with your camera, the 50/1.8 Nikon Series E gives good performance for a very low price. Compared to a zoom, the 50mm will be sharper, higher in contrast, lower in distortion, faster (better in low light without flash), smaller, lighter and cheaper. That's a pretty hard combination to beat. In looking for any lens for the FA, look for a lens in the AI-S version of the Nikon mount. (Series E lenses are AI-S mount)5. From : L. N. Hello, I have just purchased a Nikon FA, intent on learning film photography. I am a complete newbie, and would like to know what lens would be recommended for my camera (brand, model). I think of buying one on the used-market as well. I would start with only one lens for now, and would like something quite polyvalent to start me off for candid b & w street photography as well as colour landscapes on the fly. Thank you for any indication that could help me on my search for my first lens! :) L. N.6. From : rick oleson (rick_oleson@yahoo.com)

HI Ezio: Series 1 lenses were always marked "Series 1". Vivitar did make a regular series of lenses at the same time, which were not bad but not up to the Series 1 standard. I don't recall the specific focal length offerings....7. From : Ezio Bonsignore (eziobonsignore@gmx.de)

When Vivitar were marketing their Series 1 lenses, were they also selling non-Series 1 (i.e., lower quality) lenses in the same focal lengths? Specifically, I know of the fine Series 1 70-210mm zoom - but was there also a "normal" 70-210mm being sold in parallel? If so, how to recognise which is which?8. Hi Georgoe: That person is what's known as a "spammer". The moderator does delete his posts, many times a day. But the moderator is only a human being who cannot devote more than 16 unpaid hours or so each day to keeping the forum clean of such things, so some get through and are seen. Perhaps you have never seen this sort of thing elsewhere on the internet, but you probably will some day. Just ignore it.
