Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..
Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. Does anyone know wheteher there are still sets available to turn a old but very good Nikkor 50mm, 1.4 A-lens into one that fits my F3? I'm getting a bit tired in the stop-down-metering method. I know in the past one could go to a shop and have it done but sofar no luck.3. From : Silvio Cesar (scvictor@ig.com.br)

Sorry about the double post. I'm new here and just realized that my question would suit this forum best: Hey guys. I've been taking a b&w photography class at a local community college and it's basically been my "intro to photography" class. I feel antsy to be trying new lenses and would love to get a nice 50mm macro and a fisheye lense to go along with my Vivitar 28-90mm lense that I've already got.
I was wondering which Canon fisheye lense would suit me best: The 7.5mm f5.6 or the 15mm f2.8 I plan on using this lens for color as well as black and white photographs, sometimes being close up pictures. Any opinions? Also, what are your opinions on the Canon 50mm macro lens for my A1? Thanks guys -Tim5. From : Greg Chappell (gregmchappell@nww.net)

Hi, David, The 100-300 f5.6 came late in the manual lens production- around 1984, so it's only available in AIS mount. It's a sharp lens, but a mint version may well cost over $300. It's not a widley used lens, so you may see some trying to sell it as a "rare" lens, which it may actually be. You just don't see too many. Within 3-4 years AF took over so there won't be as many around as other Nikkors6. From : David Von Drasek (davidv@wizzards.net)

What can anyone tell me about the Nikon Nikkor 100 to 300 f5.6 zoom for the mod F and the older nikon cameras, and what would I expect to pay for a used one.7. From : Allan Reniche (areniche@yahoo.com)

I seriously need a minus 4 dioptric adjustment lens which will fit a Canon AE-1 or Canon T70. I am willing to pay up to $15.00 for one in decent shape. Please email me if you know where I might find one. Thanks.8. From : rick oleson (rick_oleson@yahoo.com)

hi john: I'm not sure if you'll find what you need, but there is a selection of screws in proper metric threads for cameras at www.micro-tools.com - you may find some other useful stuff there too. The standard screw sizes are 1.4, 1.7 and 2.0mm diameter, though there are a few 1.6's out there too. measure the OD of an existing screw with a caliper to determine the size; it will measure a few hundredths of a mm below the nominal size. I have some notes on nikkor lens disassembly at the above link if it's helpful. Best of luck rick :)=9. From : John D. Powers (jdp3@cornell.edu)

I hope that this is the place to put this message. I have a great deal of experience with Wild theodolites, meaning, I am savvy with respect to repair of optical instruments. I have gone to camera shops to find set screws for Nikkor lens, but am always told that I have not the experience to deal with the problem and that I should leave the lens there for repair. I have left my cameras at repair facilities befor, and have always been dissapointed with the results. I have made repairs to my frame befor, and I will be ordering a manual for my camera, but my big problem still exists ... where can I find screws?10. Hi Jill: My first suggestion would be the 50mm f/3.5 olympus macro lens - you can probably find a good used one for around $150, and it will focus to cover a 2x3" field with excellent quality. To cover this same field with your existing normal lens, you need a 25mm extension tube. Stop well down, because the quality will not be as good as with the macro lens. A cheaper way to get a 25mm extension tube is to buy a cheap used 2x teleconverter and remove the glass (the lens cell can be unscrewed from most teleconverters).... you can probably do this for about $10-20.
With an om1, the easiest way to light your subjects will probably be with continuous lighting rather than flash... this way you'll be able to see exactly what you're going to get. if you do want a ring light, get one with automatic exposure control, as the light output can be pretty severe at these close distances. the OM1 doesn't have any dedicated functions, so any standard PC or hot shoe flash will work with it. rick :)=
