Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia has no Guestbook on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. Hello, i've become disatisfied with the image quality of the 2 zooms I own. I realised that I want no less image quality that what i got used to : very good fixed focal lenses (first a rangefinder Revue 400SE wich has a very good lens, now a Pentax SMC-M 50mm/1.7 on a Pentax ME Super). So for the time beeing i'm buying fix-focal orginal pentax lenses for my ME Super, and i will probably buy an LX as well. For the future i have the following question : Are there zoom lenses for Pentax bayonett mount, which image quality is *as good or better* than the best fix-focal lenses (the Pentax SMC-M 50mm 1.7 for example)? I mean a zoom lens of any brand, any price, any age, and any series, as long as the image quality is *very* good. Idealy these zooms would be of common and usefull focal ranges like 28-70, 35-80, 70-210 etc. If it/they exist/s, this/these zoom/s might be my next dream-gear, even if it's very expensive and i have to wait a few year before i can buy it.

Yes but it is not a 'fake" as your dealer said. The only difference is, it does not carry with a "Nikkor" tag - instead, it uses a "Nikon" name instead. It is a Nikon Series E zoom lens introduced during the later seventies/early eighties. Go to this page: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/nikkoresources/index.htm click at the bottom link (MF-Nikkor lenses) and click again on the sublink | 70-210mm E | section. It is a pretty good zoom - almost caparable with the more famous Nikkor 80-200mm f/4.0 AIS counterpart. The lens has no meter coupling prong so, it is not compatible with older series of Nikon non AI camera models.

I would like to know did Nikon make a Nikkor 70-200mm f/4.0 manual lens? I was told by a camera dealer that the lens was a knock off lens (meaning a fake).

1. PABLO: At this page: http://www.nue.org/people/okuno/camera.html#mount-adapter Robert Monaghan says there is an an adapter to use Olympus lenses with Nikon bodies. See it for details.

2. TAMRON SP 17/3,5. Roger Key, at the Olympus forum http://zuiko.sls.bc.ca/swright/olympus-digest.archive/v02.n3432 says: "There are two versions. The first version (model 51B) was made from 1979 to 1984. The second version (model 151B) was made from 1989-2000. They use different lens hoods, but otherwise the main difference is that the first version had four built-in filters; Normal (UV), 80B, 81B, and Y2. The later model apparently does not have built-in filters but takes 82mm external filters. But only in the hood. (Sounds like a rap song title.) The lens itself has no filter threads, and the hood clamps on with a pair of set screws. The filter threads are inside the hood, so without it, you can't attach a filter." So, after this, it seems that I have a 51B lens with the 151B hood. :(

Tamron SP 17/3,5. Looking for more information I've found "The lens comes with a matching hood (flower-shaped, plastic for older version and metal for newer one), but has no provision for mounting filters. The hood itself allows one to mount an 82mm filter" Could anyone tell me if my lens (model 51B), with the metalic and circular hood has the OK on? Or might it to be flower-shaped, too?
Thanks in advance. Jaume ;-)

Tamron SP 17 mm/3,5, model 51B, Canon FD Adaptall 2 mount. Its superb, but... when I use it with its original hood (metalic, circular, with internal thread of screw to fix filters, slip-on with a little screw to fix it), without any external filters, with the internal filter in position "normal", shooting at diaphragm 8,it produces vignettes in the film's four corners. It is slipped just to the end. Does anyone have the same problem? Any suggestion? Thanks in advance. Jaume ;-)

Boggy: Thank your for your suggestion. I know Bob Monaghan's pages... really a very good site! I would like the different brands had a web page with good technical references to the old times that were the basis for the actual state... For example, Canon Camera Museum. Or this fantastic Leo Foo pages! Have a nice day! Jaume ;-)

Help! A friend loaned me a Nikon N2020 AF with AF 35-70 3.3-4.5 lens. No instruction book and I'm having a really hard time finding information on the camera anywhere. Any suggestions?
