Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. TERRY. Thanks for your advise for me for buying the fd 35-105 F3/5 Instead of 35- 105 F3/5 - 4/5 Pictures are very very sharp AFTER f 5/6 with my T9O Perhaps as good as with my EOS 1 and is 28-135 IS And aperture is larger and construction better. The most important is to not forget to use fast speed after 85 MM when zooming ! On the eos BODY in mode Program this correction is automatic. REGARDS

In replying to posting by George at the Canon A-Series Message Board :- The Canon FD 35-105 f3.5 is a superb lens. I liked mine so much I bought a second one. The 35-105 f3.5-4.5 is not as good a lens as the f3.5 version, but it is not bad either. It IS a lot smaller and lighter than the f3.5. It also takes cheaper 58mm filters versus 72mm filters. And most of the longer Canon zooms (70-210, 80-200, 100-300) also take 58mm filters. But for outright performance, get the f3.5. I actually own both, and use them depending on the use. I tend to use the f3.5-4.5 in brighter conditions where I know I will be working in the f8-f11 range for more sharpness.

TO JACK I have tried them all, those small wondermirrors. In my opinion only two "thirdpartys" will work as more than a dark bad binuclear. Tamron mirror 500 (8), and Tokina mirror 500 (8) is the only ones who work to take pictures. Vivitar is by all means very bad. Sigma is bad. Centon is extremely bad. I am talking on behind of experience.

I am looking for a 500mm or 600mm reflex lens in an FD mount. Porters sells a vivitar for around $130. I have seen Canon brand and the sigma 600mm for sale on ebay. Anybody care to comment on any of these lenes? I realize that you usually get what you pay for but the sigmas and the canon seem to go for around $300 used. Is there a big difference in the performance of these lenes? Thanks.
