Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..
Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia has no Guestbook on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. Jomar/Tim - thank you both for your reply . I have decided to get the lens serviced and to purchase a T90 to use with it . As a lifelong Nikon user , this is quite a step ! . You are correct - better to keep the lens and use it than to sell it .
Thanks once again ...

John: Macro lens at longest focal length of 200mm is quite fun to use due to its comfotable working distance and usually it can demand for higher premium over other similar lenses at shorter focal length. Unfortunately, you are thinking of disposing it rather than using for your own photography because it is an all round lens which most photographers would like to keep one in their camera bag (I have one like yours). Here is a section where you can find some basic info relating to this great lens:http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/canon/fdresources/fdlenses/fdmacro/200macro.htm3. Andy: KEH offers this lens for $89 in ex condition
Normal repair cost (Norway) $60 - $70. Any skilled repairman can do the job. A local one working outside the brand dealer's system is probably the cheapest.

Hello All , I have a Canon 200mm F4 Macro lens , with a full set of extension tubes , all housed in an aluminium case . The lens has not been used for a number of years and the aperture diaphragm seems to have stuck . Would it be possible to strip this lens and clean or lubricate the diaphragm ? - does anyone have any info on how to do this or a link to a site ? . I was thinking of selling this lens too - anyone any idea of a price to sell it at (UK) ?? . Any help gratefully accepted ! .5. From : Jomar Haktorson (jomarh@online.no)

I'm a photographic hobbyist residing in the Seattle area. My 35mm Nikon SLR cameras currently consist of a Nikon Photomic FTN and a Nikkormat EL. In addition, I have collected these Nikon/Nikkor lenses, which fit those cameras: 24mm f/2.8, 35mm f/2.8, 50mm f/1.4, 105mm f/2.5, 43-86mm f/3.5, and 35-200mm f/3.5-4.5. At the moment, I am seeking any kind of copy of the instruction manual for the 35-200mm zoom lens. My attempts to get one through Nikon USA and Craig's have been unfruitful. I would be grateful for any assistance in this search. Thanks.8. From : Duncan (airborn@euromail.se)

Nick - I have a 28 f1/2,8 and it is razor sharp over the whole range. Theoreticaly it will probably perform best between 5,6 and 8 (two steps above the max aperture).
How ever, to get the full advantage of the wide angels depht of field characteristics you will gain by narrowing it down to 11 or 16, or even 22, if you have suffisient light or a tripod10.
