Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. Hi Daryl:

By "fully compatible", do you mean that the circular image would not be clipped at the top and bottom? That isn't going to happen. The 8mm fisheye projects a circle of approximately 24mm diameter on the focal plane. The sensor in the D5000 is only 15.8mm high, so it cannot hold a 24mm circle without clipping it off.

I am attempting to match up my Nikkor Fisheye 8mm 2.8 lens with a DSLR (Nikon D5000). Having taken a couple of test shots, it appears that the image has been clipped at the top and bottom. Also, I've read postings which suggest that it's possible to convert this lens so it is fully compatible with the current DSLRs, but I am unable to find a clear definition of how that's done. If anyone can offer some orientation tips on how to get this lens back into service, very much appreciated.

Hello, I just would like to show photos I have taken with a Nikon F5. Photos posted on this site about the F5 are very nice however, there is no provision for average Nikon F5 users. Here are some of my photos, all taken with a Nikon F5. Thanks to www.mir.com for all your Nikon F5 info.

Hi.
Can anyone explain what the "Minimum Aperture Lock" (slide switch) does on the Nikon AF Zoom Nikkor ED 80-200mm, F/2.8D Lens. I do not fully understand its function.

Hello,

I've read through the material here on the site without being able to find the answer to my questions. I have three Nikkor RF lenses in Contax mount that all stop down to f32 and all have six-digit serial numbers. I'm trying to figure out the approximate production dates.

Chrome 8.5cm f2 Nikkor-P.C, serial no. 400xxx

Chrome 13.5cm f3.5 Nikkor-Q.C that stops down to f32, serial no. 260xxx

Black 13.5cm f3.5 Nikkor-Q, serial no. 275xxx. This one has its original case and box; the brown case is embossed "Nippon Kogaku/Tokyo"

Any information is much appreciated!

I am thinking about the Nikon 28-105 3.5 as a general use lens on my D70s. In reading the review of the lens, it was mentioned that focusing manually there is a "provision for manual focus should you need it."

What exactly does this mean? Can I just start focusing manually or is there an additional step involved?

Thanks,
Don

I would like to know if the Sinaron digital adapted zuiko 35-80mm lenses can be converted back to use with the original OM series of cameras from Olympus?

Did you know? Maybe I'm dating myself butI had a Micro-Nikkor 50mm PRE-SET lens. What you did was focus with the lens wide open; figure out the correct exposure; set the inner (there were 2) ring to the f-stop you wanted to use; refocus if you wanted to, and then turn the outer ring to the pre-set f-stop, and fire away. It was slow, but the results were great. Also, the lens focused down to 1:1 without the need of any accessoriy PK 13 or any other ring. It might work nicely with my D90, although the mount might need slight modification( I'm not sure), but, alas, I don't have it any longer.

Hi Ralph:

Look here for lens compatibility information for the D60: http://www.dentonimages.com/page.php?id=art100708a

My understanding is that manual focus lenses will work but your light meter will not operate, and AF series lenses will not autofocus on the D60. AF-I and AF-S series lenses should be fully compatible. But I am not an expert on Nikon lens compatibility, and I find it hard to keep up with their constant changes.
