Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..
Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia has no Guestbook on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. But if you want to leave a note on your experience visiting this site, you may use the MIR's MIR Guestbook | instead.

I'm relatively new to Nikon lenses, and have been wondering about some of the designations, such as Nikkor-Q, Nikkor-PC, etc. I notice that the Nikkor-Q lenses seem to command a lesser price than others of similar speed and focal length. Any background info on this subject greatly appreciated. Thanks, John7. From : Kai Pin (kaipin@tm.net.my)

TO TONY TOON: You forgot to mention which brand of camera you are using. Since only Canon and Nikon have their own 17-35mm f/2.8 lenses, your camera must be from either brand. Which one of the two you are using, there's no need for further explanation that the original lenses are better than an independent maker's version. The price is an indication of quality. Then again, there is nothing wrong about buying the Sigma version, either. I am sure you can live with the disadvantages the Sigma has, slower AF response and the risk of damaging your camera in the long run -- the HSM lens may seem to focus as fast as Canon's USM or Nikon's AF-S systems but it is not on direct comparisons. Original lenses are designed to interact perfectly with the camera bodies, without any risk of damage. Independent makers' lenses, while can be used, do not necessary be safe for your camera in the long term. Overloading of battery power is quite normal -- they ran out of juice faster compared with using original lenses. Users of independent lenses may disagree with my views here but these are the truth. If you are willing to take the risks, there's no reason why you shouldn't invest in the Sigma lens.

am thinking of acquiring the Sigma 17-35 mm f2.8-4 EX Aspherical HSM lens. but many of my friends advised against buying it.They told me that I would be better off buying the original lens from the camera manufacturer. But because the lens is half the price of the original, I am tempted to acquire it. Before I fall into the 'trap' as they put it, can anyone out there enlighten me on this lens. Thanks9. TO PHUANGMAL: There are only two reasons to own the Nikkor 50mm f/1.2 Noct lens; Realistic and Sarcastic. REALISTIC: It is one of the best lens ever made by Nikon or any manufacturer, with superb image quality even at full aperture, and is the lens to use if image the quality is of primary importance shooting at the maximum aperture. SARCASTIC: For those who has this lens, the next time an idiot comes along and start saying that European made lenses can blow away whatever Nikon can produce, the quality of this lens will silent their criticisms away permanently.10.
