Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..
Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. Sorry to hear about your experience, Lori; from what I could see, the dealers on Fisherman's Wharf were frauds and criminals without exception. There may have been some honest ones... if so I didn't happen to stop into their shops.
Try whatever you can.... if you can cancel the transaction with your card company, go for it. I've never been in that situation so I don't know what is involved.3. From : Lori (lcwt7@aol.com)

I agree with one post marked here, wish I had read it before I was RIPPED OFF!! DO NOT BUY AT FISHERMANS WHARF!! I felt like a fish out of water! Lowering their prices, I should have know right then it was WRONG! I bought a ZICE wide angle lens... now at home I can hardly see any difference. Can I call my credit card campany and cancel? It's only been two days! I'm only halfway across the country, or should I report them to better business bureau? :(

Generally, Fisheye lenses are very difficult to master. Other than some serious users who wants to explore new perspective, only pros may invest into these lens type. So, I would think chances can be slim to get hold of an original manual with them (Let's see..). I do owned a 16mm full frame fisheye lens 10 years ago and hardly used just after a must assignment for that effect, but circular fisheyes are a different breed, application may even be trimmed to less possibility. Anyway, good luck on your request. The Zuiko pages here are lovingly presented. .5. From : bob (Q@private.com)

Any OM guru here and may I ask anyone has a newer ZUIKO 8mm Fish lens with instruction manual ? I read this http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/olympusom1n2/shared/zuiko/htmls/fish8mm.htm and the version of the optical map has an older formula, just curious what is the newer series looks like. Does the lens (the picture shown at mid section of the page)with an orange filter description is the newer one ? (I checked mine old literature, the lens has a B&W indication only).6. From : Luigi D. Ludwig: although lens quality is part of the equation, running a successful SLR business does not depends on it only. Despite their excellent lens quality, German cameras was not able to stand Japanese competition starting from the fifties, and disappeared (i.e. Zeiss Ikon, Contax - later this brand was licensed to Yashica), or survived in niche markets (i.e. Leica) for fans with deep pockets :)
Often the SLR business is just part of a broader one - and when it does no longer generate enough revenues it could be sold or abandoned. Zeiss does much more then cameras and lenses, and Leica too. In the past Topcon made excellent cameras and lenses, but once again it wasn't its core business and left it.
The brands you mentioned had quality lenses too. Yashica used the same mount used by Contax (same manufacturer) and could use Zeiss lenses...
IMHO Canon and Nikon dominated the market not only for the quality of their lenses, but especially for the completeness of their systems and wide coverage of different users needs, from amateurs to specialized professionals. That made the difference. Others took a different approach, and didn't invest as much.
With a shrinking SLR market, some of the smaller player with larger business in other areas will leave it - it's natural.7. From : Pin33 (nomail@nikonfan.ccom)

Looking at the photo at the mid section of that page on the disassembled Kodak 460 as guided, it is possible to have a interchangeable digital film back too, right ? They just wouldn't do oen for us, sick...I guess this is only possible when "one day", sales of DSLR get sluggish////!8. From : rick oleson (rick_oleson@yahoo.com)

Hello C. Hadassah:
The magnification factor for the 460 is 1.3 .... so a 100mm lens would have the perspective and angle of view of a 130mm lens on a film camera.
(ps: if it's in good working order and you don't mind the size and weight, that sounds like a really neat camera)9. From : C. Hadassah (combra_saopaolo@hotmail.com)

I was offered with a Kodak DCS 460 and a Nikon E3 and don't know which is the better option for me. The 460 is more expensive as I read from your site it seems has a better spec (DCS 460 (460c, 460m) Width 27.6 mm x 18.4 mm, 3060 x 2036-pixels and the E3 is only 1,280 x 1,000 array); captures 8-bit full-color). Question: I am not good at technical but can anyone refer here and tell me what is the mag. factor if a normal autofocus Nikkor is used and how can I calculate the multiplication i.e 100mm = ? in the digital format of the 460 ? The page has shown many versions with different calculations. The page I am referring is http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/Kodak/index1.htm#460
(note: the model is 460, not the 420, NC2000, 420 IR or 410 model as shown on the table). Thanks. Please use this forum to reply as I will be traveling day after. Thanks for this great info site ! very useful ! "----"10. I don't quite agree with the quote of Mr JW's ",,all lenses are the same..". If this is the case, Minolta, Pentax, Yahshica could have established a bigger pool of users (if not bigger than Canon and Nikon). They are now fading away as one of the main players of SLR manufacturer.
