Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..
Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. I just purchased a used Nikon 105mm f/2.8D micro lens and I am desperately looking for a user guide and cannot locate it. Greetings Leonard; always have enjoy the site (MIR) In recently reading the ‘Canon EF 20~35mm f/2.8L ultra wideangle Zoom ‘ page, your comment that the Rokkor 24-35mm lens would be “…confined themselves as consumer class solution” stumped me (no offense).
I have used this lens for many years (and have used all other OEM’s as well) and in testing found it to be nicely controlled with few optical flaws even wide open (dips a little at 5.6). I would heartedly agree that Canon’s 24-35mm/3.5L is a superb lens and (as you said) “there was practically no competition in its class” when introduced in the late 70s (Minolta’s 24-35mm/3.5 in 1982). Few today are aware that during the Japanese Lens Technology boom, there was only three optical glass foundries in Japan; Canon, Minolta and Nikon (alphabetic order). Minolta now gone but Canon remains a top lens manufacturer.

Looking for information on an old brass lens found in a box with other lenses and microscope objectives. It is an E.Leitz, Wetzlar 120mm f4,5 Sumar. And "Sumar" is engraved with one "m". I have found "Summars", with two "m's" on the web, but no other "Sumar". Thanks for any info you might be able to pass along.10.
