Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. Since the Reflex Nikkor has no diaphragm, it is always "wide open". The aperture indexing cam on the Nikon camera body defaults to this position when there is no lens on the camera, so the meter needs no aperture information from the lens.

I have a Nikon F4 camera and a Nikon 500mm f/8 Reflex Nikkor Lens. It has a fixed aperture at 8. But my camera is not reading the aperture.
I have a 35-70mm zoom and it moves a little mechanism, right above were the lens is mounted, that is what makes the camera "know" what is the aperture of the lens.
However, the Nikon 500mm f/8 Reflex Nikkor Lens, has nothing that moves the mechanism.
Can someone explain me what to do to obtain the correct aperture reading in my camera with that lens?

Yes, Burt, the FTb and the A1 both use the FD lens series and they are completely interchangeable. rick :)=

I use both Canon Ftb and A-1. My question is: are the lensen interchangeable for these camera's? For the A-1 it's no problem but for the Ftb it is, except when i use my 70-210. Are there differences in older en newer lenses... I want to sell my Ftb. Thanks, Burt.

Toni: any standard electronic flash should work on the nikon EM, with the camera set manually to the X synch setting and following the flash's instructions for auto operation. check your flash on another camera, and borrow another flash to try on your EM, to find whether the problem is in the camera or the flash.

Philip: any MD mount lens is compatible with the XD7. since sigma lenses are made in many mounts, the one you mentioned may or may not be correct. if it physically fits on the camera, it should be okay (there is probably also an "MD" engraved somewhere toward the rear end of the lens).

M Cheek: some later nikkor lenses can have the meter coupling fork added to make them work with older nikons and nikkormats... check with your local nikon dealer for details on whether this can be done with your lens. there are teleconverters that have both the AI coupling and the fork and post, so one of these would couple your lens to your camera; but it would also double the focal length.rick :)=

Hello, I am hoping that someone can help. My friend found a Nikon camera which he gave to me. It is a Nikon EM. The flash attachment that came with it does not work and it is a Rokinon 26AMD. Apon reading about the Nikon EM, it mentioned having the flash SB-E/SB 10 speedlight. The flash fits on to the camera fine but just does not work :) My friend was going to take it apart to see if it was the light or something(we replaced the batteries) BUT I am wondering now if it is just the wrong type of flash for this camera. If someone could email me, I would so appreciate it. I would like to know if this flash could be used and if not, where can I find one that does. It seems like a neat camera. Thankyou so very much. Happy New Year to you all. Toni :)
