Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..
Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. AN APOLOGY:
I was in the process of clearing an interesting post on the subject of reverse adapters for EL-Nikkor enlarging lenses, and I accidentally hit the "delete" button as I reached for the "edit" button.
If the poster could please re-post that message, I PROMISE not to screw up a second time. Please accept my apologies.2. From : JWoods (centurywoods@noSPAM.com)

The DCS Pro/N is using the basic framework of the highly successful F80 to construct. It has some issues with older MF lenses. Typically, as I downloaded a guide for lens compatibility for you to refer (from Steve Site):
Use a CPU lens (except IX-NIKKOR) with your camera. D-type AF lenses provide access to all available functions.
If you use a non-CPU lens, F-- appears in place of the aperture indication in the Top Status LCD and viewfinder. You must set or confirm aperture using the lens aperture ring.
In addition:
* You must use Manual Exposure mode. (The shutter will not release in other exposure modes
* The exposure meter cannot be used.
* Aperture cannot be set using the Sub-Command dial.
So, seemingly you have to use conventional MF Nikkor lenses to operate this digital SLR camera. However, I like the ISO 80 of the DCS Pro/N provides as it offers a lower ISO at 80 - MOST Nikon models can't even offer this (at most ASA 100). Canon did a better job here. You do know Kodak has announced discontinuation of this model ? Sad.. it is the only full frame DSLR uses Nikkor lenses.3. From : Richard A Brown (caddylover7631@yahoo.com)

I am very interesting in buying a 600mm f/4 or f/5.6 Nikkor to hang onto my Kodak DCS Pro SLR/N. However, I dont have the funds to buy the latest or newest version of this lens. I'm shopping for a used one.
I just tested a 600mm f/4 ED MF lens on my DCS Pro and while it mounted fine, manually focused fine, my camera would not meter any exposure. My viewfinder display would show a shutterspeed, but no f/ value and changing the lens f/ setting did not alter my camera's displayed shutterspeed. I could not find a way to quickly identify any exposure setting regardless of camera mode setting (manual, shutter, aperture priority).
Admittedly, this was an early, older 600mm lens. As I continue to look for used lenses, what feature must the lens have to be able to communicate with my camera some exposure combination (f/ value & shutterspeed)? Autofocus? AIS? Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Hello All,
I have a OM Zuiko 50mm f/1.8 which has a sticky diaphragm mechanism, which I would like to try and fix myself. I have already conducted exploratory partial dis-assembly and am confident I could have a good go at fixing it. My question is what sort of lubricant should I use to re-lube the mechanism? It occurs to me that I would not want to use any lubricant which might vaporise and condense on the lens elements. The lens is not worth paying anyone to fix, but I would like to have it clean and snappy again.
Any advice gratfully received,

I've just bought an F4 (very excited!) I'd like to use one of the new Nikon 55-200 zooms with it - the AF.S DX 55-200 f4-5.6G - can anyone tell me whether it is compatible and whether the AF will work - I'm having doubts, but I haven't bought the lens yet.
Thanks, Sean6. From : Robert Glenn Middleton (the_redd_groyne@hotmail.co.uk)

Marcus, The f2/50 is just a cheaper reworked version of the f1.8/50. It was produced for a particular market/camera fit. It is not rare, nor is it of any value.7. From : YP (priavte@nospam.com)

Oh.. I read your "..Nikkor lenses (used with Nikon FTn 35mm cameras)...". So, I assume yours are the non-Ai Nikkor lenses. Basically, despite they share a common F-mount (can be mounted) but serves little function as meter will not work and neither any exposure info will be provided. Nikon advises these 30+ years lenses are not advisable but if you still want to try, take your own risk. The higher spec. Nikon D200 has much better compatibility, at least exposure info is provided, the D40, D50 and D80 has these problem and the D40 is specifically designed to use with the G-series AF Nikkor lenses (IMPORTANT:- Nikon D40 only offers AF operation with Nikon's AF-S type lenses.). A stupid decision by Nikon actually.
