Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia has no Guestbook on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. Okay.. brothers. I am new to Pentax and has found your Pentax LX pro section (by the way, great site !). I was offered a Pentax Digital SLR, Question, I do notice there are plenty of pentax lenses at Ebay - can those manual focus Pentax lenses beused on a digital pentax ? i.e. is the mount same ? I do know it may lose autofocus but how about there functions ? - Ray

Hi Steve:

No, I'm afraid you're not that lucky this time either. Canon DSLRs can accept many lenses with adapters: Nikon, Olympus, Pentax screw mount, Contax/Yashica, even Leicaflex..... but not Canon FD lenses. This is because the manual Canon camera bodies were very thin, and if placed in front of the thicker DSLR bodies the lenses cannot focus to infinity. The only way around this problem is an adapter with a focus-correcting lens element in it, and this creates more problems than it solves.

I am slowly making the transition from the Canon AE-1 to the digital world. Since I am contemplating an digital upgrade, I was interested in the D-SLR cameras. My question is, does Canon make a D-SLR that would allow me to use the many lenses I use on my AE-1? I'm guessing not, for I am rarely this lucky.

Thanks for your time.

Steve

70-200 f/1.4 ? I don't say it is no way (As Nikon mount couldn't physically has it possible ! I guess you are referring to f4.0 ??). Anyway, if ever this "wonder" fast speed zoom ever existed - why don't you share your priced collection with all of us - could be an eye opener for me (at least).

Sorry, J.C.....

Fishermans' Wharf is a section of San Francisco, California where there are restaurants, shops and lots of tourists. There are bargains there (I got a cool sweatshirt really cheap, and some of the restaurants aren't as high as you would expect), but the camera shops all seemed to be predatory.

There had been a message some time back from a fellow who had been taken in by one of these dealers, and I experienced some of their attempts myself last year.
