Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. Nikon D50 with Nikkor Manual Lenses?
Hello,
I am considering buying my first digital camera; probably a D50. I have quite a few Nikkor manual lenses that I like a lot (24, 35, 50, 105mm) and wish I can continue to use. I really do not like the zooms included with the "kit" of the D50.
- Would I be able to use the lenses on the D50?
- Besides loosing the obvious features like AF, Matrix Metering, are there any other things I need to be aware of?
- I understand that because of the size of the sensor on the camera, there's a multiplying factor that affects the focal lenght (nominal). Is this correct?
- Are there any risks/possible damages for the camera with this setup?

The only reason I am looking into digital is because of the convenience (lower per photo cost). That means I can take more risks (and photos) without incurring in develping and printing costs.....
Any advise is highly appreciated.

Tks.

I have a Minolta Maxxum Qtsi. The Quantaray lens on it (28-80) broke from the camera at the mount. I realize it's a pretty cheap lens, but do you know of any resources for me to buy the lens mount for this lens?

the lens seems fine, and I've taken the mount a part from the sensor mount.
any ideas?
thanks
mel

M Januario - If you can find one, the first version of the EF 50mm f/1.8 is a great bargain. It has a metal mount, a DOF scale and a better MF ring than the "Mk.II" version, although they are both tack-sharp optically. The much more expensive EF 50/1.4 gets you an extra half stop, better construction and I'm told better bokeh due to the increased number of aperture blades. There are probably some differences in contrast and color too, but I only have the 50/1.8. I think it's a super lens, a worthy descendant of the benchmark FD 50/1.8. Ken

I've recently acquired a Minolta X 700 which works with MD and MC lens. I've got a pack of lens of Nikon AI. Do you know if there exists any adaptor for these to fit them on the minolta body?

To: Beawlay Brother: Yes, the tripod collar of the 300 mm F4 and the 200 mm F4 macro are the same. I own both.

I have just placed an order for a d200 with a 18-200 vr lens. I'm told the body will be about a month in delivery and the lens will be 3 months. Thanks nikon canada, I have a Nikkor 300mm lens with a bayonet mount and I would like to try it out till my lens order arrives. Can any one tell me if there is an adaptor that will marry the two. Thanks, Bill

jules: it may be the camera (it has the AF senson and logic), it may be the lens (it has the AF motor). You would need another AC lens to test it, but they are not very easy to find. Check the manual (you can find one at www.canonfd.com), maybe you overlooked something.
