Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..
Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. Hi Rick, Thank you again. That was a fast reply. I'm just curious which 50mm lenes do you use the most given the fact that you got quite a few of them lying around! Currently I'm using the 50mm f2AI but managed to drop it resulting in a dent on the outer shell. I'm not sure if its working properply or not. I'm still in my early day regarding photography but I do notice from time to time I wish I had a faster lens especially when shooting indoor with lowlight. Is a 50mm f1.4 that much heavier than an f2? Its certainly on my mind now since you said that the quality are pretty much of a high standard. kind regards,2. Hi Miti: Personally, I think you're taking these discussions too seriously. When you get into a group of enthusiasts, they tend to get really worked up and opinionated about details that are pretty much irrelevant to normal people. I have two 50/2.0s, a 50/1.4 and a 50/1.2 Nikkor, and all are excellent.... the f/1.2 surprisingly so, I had expected a little softness at such an extreme speed. I wouldn't look for a lot of quality difference among the 2.0, 1.8 and 1.4, unless your hobby is testing lenses rather than photography. The f/1.8 has an excellent reputation as well, though I don't own one of those myself.
The considerations that I think ARE important are speed, and bulk and weight. If you want a faster lens and don't mind carrying the weight, go for the f/1.4; if you don't need the extra speed (it's only one stop) and would like a lighter camera, the f/2 is the better choice. The f/1.8 is there for those who just can't decide between the other two. :)=3. From : Miti Ruangkritya (miti139@hotmail.com)

50mm Nikkor Manual Focus Lens Hi guys, After checking plenty of discussions at Nikonians.org, I am totally confuse about which 50mm manual focus lens are the best to use with my Nikomat. A lot of people argued that f1.4 give a much sharper image than f1.8. However some people talked about the artistic merit of f1.4? Add to that f2 is an apparent cult lens for 50mm. If money was not an issue which one would you choose? Does it come down to the preference for low light photography at f1.4 or sharper picture at f1.8. Does f2 comes into this equation at all? kind regards, Miti4. From : Timmy (jazz_othor33@hotmail.com)

I own a Nikon D70 and recently purchased a manual 180mm f/2.8 Nikkor lens for photographing sunsets, moonrises, etc. Would the ED glass version of this lens produce noticably sharper images?6. From : Luigi D. Sandon (cp@sandon.it)

Ronnie, I have a Kiron 70-210 lens and its manual, but AFAIK Kiron made different 70-210 lenses. I bought mine in 1986, IIRC.7. From : Kakaman (mail_will_bounce@mir.com.my)

I have a Nikon N70 fitted with a Tamron AF LD 28-200 mm lens. I would like to buy a digital camera, preferably a Nikon. Can I transfer my Tamron lens to a new digital body? Will it have all the functionality it has now? Are there any reasons not to? Thanks.9. From : Ronnie (ronnie@animalfor.com)
