Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia has no Guestbook on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. Grady,

All Canon Lenses with the FD mount will interchange on Canon slr cameras with FD mount. Your list of cameras will all take the FD and nFD lenses. Some of the earlier FL lenses are not fully interchangeable on the newer FD mount bodies - mirror clearance problems etc.

I am new into this old stuff. I am using a Canon G5 for pictures (previously a Kodak P&S). Question for the Canon gurus here: I thought of getting a few oldies to decorate my office (more like a collector attitude now but want to see if these still take good pictures), FT pellix, Canon F1, F1 Olympic, T80 with a few lenses. Are they interchangeable ? Esp the Pellix and T80 with the F??

Hi James:

I am not very up to date now on camera values, and the market seems to be chaotic since the digital takeover: collectible classics seem to be holding their values, but 35mm SLRs that were mainly desirable as user cameras have become erratic in value. A year or two ago I would have placed a good FTN with lens at a bit over $100, a little more with the zoom; but a coworker has recently bought a good Olympus OM1 with lens for $20, and a matching OM2 for $25.... If you would like to obtain an FTn for the sake of nostalgia, this may be a good time to shop for it. Check completed sales on eBay for a realistic idea of current values.

James: messages appear only after a moderator approves them, to avoid spam. The US Navy and Air Force often bought Canon gear (among others), and usually all items have been "engraved", and some - especially some lenses - were modified (i.e. locking the focus) due to special needs, but most are simply plain gear with an engraving, for example I have a FD 400/4.5 from McClellan AFB. If you are going to buy one, be aware that it may underwent heavy use, and check the lens because they could have been modified, and aren't useful for normal use.

Hi.. I read many of the posts here and noticed many experts are here to serve visitors. Question for Mr. Luigi: I saw a Canon T90 Navy, is this normal production item ? It comes with a US Navy with the zoom lenses too (35/105/300/4). I can't find any info in your website. Dear Mr Rick, I used to have a Nikkormat FTN many years ago while serving my duty in Bangkok. Lost in the train trip to Burma, it has a zoom / 43-86mm wondering how much would such a combination cost, just to patch my sentimental corner in my heart. Thanks all, this is a great forum !

I have TC16A and it works on my F4 and D2x. Why state that it doesn't?
Tom

NOTE: Dear Tom. It should be TC-16S not, "A". Can you tell us where was the phrase used in the site ? We will rectify this. The TC16S is F3AF specific . The List of compatible lenses usable on the the said Tele-extender is printed on http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf3ver2/f3afbasic/f3aftc16/index.htm

It is good to rectify the out of alignment of tables in your Rangefinder Nikkor lens site. The problem is caused by a double '" "' in your HTML file. I am glad be able to help by notifying as I think your site is very good. I have found the first page of the OM 2 is having the same problem, line 36 is causing the table to behave strangely. You can remove the tag as the Nikkor site. Lastly, unlike PC's Firefox or Mac; PC version of the IE is very unforgiving in wrong tags. Good work, friend.

Note:- Dear Paul, Rick and I had patched the pages. THANKS for informing us the error. We didn't noticed them until you informed us. Once again, Thank You ! - Kakaman -

I have a Pellix. The info you asked for can be found here, meaning yes Canon did produced a 55mm f/1.2 http://www.canon.com/camera-museum/camera/lens/fl/data/19-85/fl_55_12.html
it can be found here as well:-
http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/canon/fdresources/fllenses/index.htm
hope these helps BUT I don't agree you have to cough out USD100 for the lens. Try searching EBAY to get a clue.

Dear sirs, I was referring to Canon site on an old FL 58mm f1.2 but recently a friend swore he has a FL 55mm f1.2 which I have never heard of. IS there similar large aperture standard lens as he mentioned for the Canon oldies ? I was offered USD110-00 for this. I have an FTQL.

Tim, To all intent and purpose, there is no difference between the two extension tubes for every day macro use. However the FD50-U is the tube supplied with the 100/f4 macro lens, and the length of the tube is not 50mm. I cannot remember what the small difference is - I passed on a lot of my non important Canon info when I moved house recently. What I can say is that it is to do with the magnification ratio and the engraved scale on the lens. From memory there did not appear to be much discrepancy when using the normal tube, instead of the -U version. Somewhere in the Canon literature you will find the actual reason - may even be in the macro lens instructions.
