Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..
Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. I am looking for a battery pack (power pack) for a Minolta XK Motordrive camera. Mine was lost during a recent move. There are two types: one connects directly to the bottom of the camera and the other connects using a cord. Either one would be acceptable. The voltage pin out information would work if anyone has that info.

Hi, everyone. I am looking to make some equipment using a Nikkor 60 AF-D Macro lens. Specifically, I am trying to use it as a lens for a digital camera, and interface it to a computer for computerized focusing. I'm an electronics nut so I can probably figure out how to do it if I knew what the communications are between the lens and the camera body (which I will connect to the computer)
So my question is: does anyone know what the signals on the five pins that connect the lens to the camera? Thanks in advance, and for hosting a very informative website. Sincerely, Peter Miller7. From : My Thought (express@nomailnospam.com)

I have one Nikon f2 with this finder, i don’t know what happen but after I inserted a 105 2,5, inside the finder I see the diafram indicator one step ahead ( in example on the lens I put f:8 inside I see 11 )
What’s happen ? Something wrong mounting the lens ?
I read something regarding the stop down, but I don’t understand It.
Can someone help me ?

Hi Steve:
Your friends are wrong: the FT3 is a relatively late model, and it uses AI and AIS series lenses; autofocus lenses will also work (except for some of the last ones that have no aperture linkage), though of course you won't get automatic focusing with them. You don't want the old, Non-AI series.
For close work, the best combination of quality and affordability is the 55mm Micro Nikkor. This came in f/3.5 and f/2.8 speeds, the 3.5 being a bit more affordable. Both are excellent for general use as well as focusing very close: a 2" by 3" rectangle will fill the frame at their close focus limit.
Other options include screw-in diopter "close-up lenses", which work but with poorer quality; "macro" zoom lenses, which also cannot compare to the quality of the Micro Nikkor (neither of these will get you as close, either), and longer Micro Nikkors such as the 105mm, which are excellent and get you even closer, but which are also significantly more expensive.
For a guide to the various manual focus Nikon mount versions, click the "Url" link at the top of this message.
