Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. I have been using a Canon nFD 28/2,8 with B+W top-polarizer and the original Canon hood, without any problem of vigneting, but now, using a Canon nFD 24/2,0 with the same polarizer and its original Canon hood I have this problem. I would thank you any suggestions about slim circular polarizers. B+W? Hoya? Any other brand with good relationship quality/cost? Any other suggestions? Thanks a lot, and have a nice day! Jaume ;-)

Hello. I have an Asanuma 90-230mm lens for my Canon Ae-1 Program. Is this lens any good? Is it even worth keeping? Thank you for any help, Josh.

Raid, The 28-50 is a constant f3.5. The 28-55 has a varaible apperature. The 28-50 is superior to the 28-55. Lindy

Hello, I own a Canon 28-50/3.5 zoom lens. Is anyone here aware of a test for this lens and for the later version 28-55mm zoom? I recall that several years ago, the 28-50 zoom sold used for $300 vs. only $150 for the 28-55zoom. Raid

Does anyone have a table list of manual Tamron SP'hoods and how to identify them? I've found one of them, without any inscription, into a bag engraved "Tamron", 72 mm diameter, and I would like to know for which lens is it useful. It seems for a 35-105 or so. Furthermore, I would like to know what hood is good for the Tamron SP 35-70/2,8-3,8 and where could I found it. Thanks a lot. I have also an SP 90 macro/2,5 and an SP 80-200/2,8 with their originals hoods. Thanks for your news, and have a nice day! Jaume ;-)

Joe, your problem is very common with these lenses the first one's made especially. Underneith the rubber grip of the focusing ring there are either 4 or 6 tiny screws that lock the ring to the inner helix. On your these have slipped and allowed the ring to get out of position with the actual focus point. What needs to be done is these screws need to be lossened slightly and the ring realinged to the proper position. Then tightened. I would suggest you take the lens to a competent repair person to have this done. I know of people who have done this themselves but without knowing your experiance working on optics I shy away from recommending do it yourself. If you need a good inexpensive repair guy email me and I'll give you my guy's phone number. Hes been working on Canons for over thity years and has most of it pretty well figured out!
