Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia has no Guestbook on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. But if you want to leave a note on your experience visiting this site, you may use the MIR's MIR Guestbook | instead.

Dear all
Recently I faced a problem with a medical Nikkor 120mm ring flash attached on the Lens.
The system was not charging, and you couldnt hear the wizzling sound of the oscillator charging the big capacitor.
I decided to change all the components on my DC power supply Nikon LD-2.
The most uncommon things are a Matsushita diode (blue color)which I didnt change, and I dont know what exactly it is. There is a transistor B826 which was hard to find, and I changed all the capacitors (except the 1100uF/300V) with new ones and the diodes with normal ultrafast diodes. Finally the system worked fine

I am looking for some advice/help/guidance, and I don't really know where to go, this web site looked like a good place to start. I have a Nikon Camera that I CAN NOT find any information on. I took the camera to be appraised and they told me to go home and call my insurance company and have it insured?
The following is the information located on the Camera: Nikon F Serial Number 6735130 Nippon Kogaku Japan, there is a sticker on it that says "passed" JC1161.
The Lens says " Nippon Kogaku Japan No.443598 Nikkor-S Auto 1:14 f= 5 0mm. I also have the original leather case, along with a light meter in its original case. I have seen similar cameras, but none that are exact. The info that I have read says Nikon F cameras were not made until 1959, my Dad said he got it in Japan while in the Navy from 1955-1959 I have photos of the camera but not sure if I can down load them on this site. Any help would be much appreciated! Thank You in advance! Sincerely, Gail Short

Was a Nikon mount ever produced for the Zeiss Olympia telephoto lenses? I have a postwar 300mm f4 with M42 mount, and a separate Exakta mount, but I'd like to use it with my Nikon DSLR. The mounts can be unscrewed from the pyramid housing on the tripod-mount section, so possibly a Nikon version exists. An alternative solution is to remove the tripod-mount section altogether (not ideal) and get something (made) a 70mm x 2mm (approx.) thread socket to fit the rear of the optics, and a Nikon mount at the other end. Obviously a M42/Nikon adapter would lose infinity focus, unless it has an extra lens (which reduces image quality). Any ideas, anyone?

Hi, have just received a couple of AE-1 from a mate who has had a stroke, and he can't tell me how to remove the lens to check out the body. I checked an online manual, but it doesn't mention the actual changing of lenses. Should be simple I know, but no obvious buttons seem to unlock the lens. Help!
