Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. I have seen the description of various viewfinders of Pentax LX camera. Really very useful information. I have a camera PENTAX ME SUPER and I need a Right Angle Viewfinder to attach for correction of sight. I, therefore, seek your help to buy this item for my camera (a used one can also work). This item is not available in my country, i.e.Pakistan. Thanks.

Hi Ben:

You've certainly got a point - the EF is certainly one of the very best of the FD-mount cameras and its historical significance can't be questioned. The number of great cameras to be covered exceeds the number of man hours available to cover them, and even after all these years this site continues to be a work in progress. I'm sure the EF's day will come for inclusion on this site, keep checking back to see when it happens. Kakaman: Rick is setting a mouse trap for me here....Errr..

I have just found you're website and it's excellent, but I notice in the Canon FD pages there is no mention of the Canon EF camera that came out in 1973, this was very important development in the marque ,being the first camera with a hybrid copal square shutter, giving mechanical speeds for the faster ones, and electronic for the slower ones. - Ben Myerson

Consider getting the reflexing housing II, it is a very much improved units. But I am not sure if the 45 degrees finder will fit the the Type I. Hope this helps. P.S. I agree, this is an incredible Nikon site, esp the RF section, the best so far we come across on the Internet today. Good work, Mr. Leoo.

Dear all, based on you excellent article on the Reflex Housing module for Nikkor short mount long telephotos (I have a 35cm), is the Type 1 can interchange the 45 degree finder (Loupe)? This is one hell of a site on Nikon !

Hi Norton:

There were actually two different FD mount autofocus 35-70mm zooms (go figure). One was a 35-70 f/4.0 which can be used on any FD mount camera ... you can see it here:

http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/canon/fdresources/fdlenses/3570afzoom.htm

.... and the other was a 35-70 f/3/.5-4.5 which was made for the T-80, Canon's only FD mount autofocus camera. In this system, the AF sensors are in the camera body so the lens cannot autofocus by itself. You can see this one here:

http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/canon/fdresources/SLRs/canont80/Canon_T80/index.htm

There were also a few aftermarket lenses that provided AF function on manual focus SLR bodies. Sigma, Tamron and Vivitar all offered telephoto zooms with this capability, but I think only Vivitar also offered a wide angle zoom. The 28-70mm Vivitar "SCAF" zoom was a decent lens and pretty good at autofocusing too; its companion was an 80-200mm, and I think there was also a fixed 200mm SCAF tele lens.

I was offered a Canon Autofocus (not the current type), it has a big module type for manual focus Canon. It is 35-70mm, can I use the lens for my AE-1 program for autofocusing ? how does it operate ? anyone has an idea ?
