Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia has no Guestbook on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. Hey Jeff; I have the same filter fitting problems with my Canon 35-70mm zoom although its may be one of my favorite lenses. Finally got a new Hoya polarizer filter to work with the lens but then the problem is screwing on and off the lens because there's nothing to hold onto.

hi jeff!

the green P tells you that the camera is set for automatic exposure control, its normal condition. when teh green P is flashing, it means that you should have brighter light in order to safely take a hand-held photo without blur. the red M tells you that the lens is set on a manual aperture setting rather than the A setting. i think the camera shutter is automatically set to 1/60 under these conditions because it assumes you're using a flash, but i'm not positive about that.

I love this web site! It has so much information. I just aquired a Canon T50. It seems to be in great shape and am shooting a test roll of 400 film now .I don't have an owners manuel and my computor is too weak to down load yours. Such is life. Anyway, with the lens set on A, I get a flashing green P in the view finder. Is this good? All other settings (off A) show me a red M. What does that mean? Appreciate your help. / Jeff

I looked at a used FD 35-70mm F3.5-4.5 and thought the lens was compact. One problem though is it will not allow larger filters than the stated 52mm to be used, even the 3mm diameter difference using a 52mm to 55mm stepping ring is not possible. When zoomed or focused the front lens elements retract into the lens barrel. Using a ring flash with the macro function is not possible either. If this is a concern, a Tokina 28-70mm F3.5-4.5 does not have this problem.
The FD 135mm F2.8 does allow use of 55mm filters with a 52 to 55mm stepping ring, with the attached hood able to be used too. Also a ring flash can be used.

Hi Dennis:

Do not attempt to mount the non-AI lens on your FM2; it may damage the plastic AI ring on your camera body. It is possible to convert your lens to provide AI coupling if you're fairly handy and have at least a drill press (a small milling machine is better but not many of us have these lying around). email me at rick_oleson@yahoo.com if you would like me to send you sketches for this conversion (i cannot be responsible for any damage or lost fingers, so please work carefully)

Hello to all, I came across an 55mm 1.2 non-ai. But I understand that my fm2 is an AI body. Is there any way to mount it and use? And also to keep the metering capabilities of the fm2. Or any way to converted the len from Non-ai to AI? Thanks in advance.

Dennis.

Ed, Canon FD era Tilt and Shift lense are only available in 35mm f2.8. Although, I have had success combining mine with the Vivitar Macro 2x 7 element converter. With this 2x converter , both TS-70mm f5.6 Macro amd TS 70mm f5.6 are viable options with the TS35. Lindy
