Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia has no Guestbook on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. Please help a newcomer whose interest in photography has started up again. I have an old Nikon FM manual camera and want to buy a 24mm lens. I was told I had to get a lens with AI /AIS, but I also have a Vivitar zoom lens that doesn't have AI /AIS ? Do I need AI / AIS ? What does it do ? Pls help a novice.

Greetings:

I purchased a Canon 7.5mm SSC fisheye lens I notice that it does not have any signal pins, are the newer FD fisheyes like that as well?

When I use it on my Canon A1 camera I notice that when setting the apeture to correspond with with ttl meter reading the reading changes without my being able to match it. For example, lets say I get a reading of 60 sec at f11, I then change the apeture to f11, when I take another meter reading the f-stop will have changed to a different one. Needless to say I am somewhat baffled by this. I certainly would appreciate someone with experience using this lens giving me the 'heads-up' on its use. Thanks.

To Dennis: Your problem with the metering when using the Zeiss 70-210 mm is probably due to the fact that the lens does not "report" the aperture to the camera (either by the AI lever (AI lenses) or by the rider shoe (non-AI lenses)). Perhaps you can activate the metering when you press the DOF button.

Hello, I'm dennis from Singapore. Recently, I inherited an Nikon F2-photomic(I think) from my Uncle. The lenses that came with it is Nikor 50mm F/1.2 and Carl Zeiss Jena 70-210mm 1:4.5-5.6 MC Macro. Information on the Nikor 50mm lens was easily available on the net but the information on the Carl Zeiss 70-210mm lenses was really limited. I couldn't find any information on it at all. Do you have any wedsites that cover Carl Zeiss lenses?

Another problem was that I realised that the metering on the F2 doesn't work when the Carl Zeiss(aperture) is in use. Can I still take photos with it? The exposure seems to be affected only by the shutter speed but difference in aperture settings does not seems to change the exposure as indicated by the metering on the F2?

I understand that the best solution is to go to my Uncle...but he has not used the camera for at least 10 years and told me he had forgot everything about the camera and the lenses... Really appreciate if you can help me out on this... Thanks and Regards, Dennis Ho.

PRICES OF CANON FD LENSES ON eBAY http://www.delanet.com/~starka/CanonFD_ebay.htm Unfortunately, I unknow the author's name (Vlad?) Here there is a very good job! It says: "This site was designed for all the Canon Manual camera and FD lens enthusiasts who I hope may benefit from information on used Canon equipment prices on ebay. I have compiled this information over a period of a year++ (Jan 2000-May 2001) on an intermittent basis. With the exception of the most common lenses (50mm f/1.8 , 28mm f/2.8, etc..) the database covers roughly 40% of lenses sold on e-bay this past year. The camera and accessory section covers only about 30% of the items sold in that category. The average prices of each individual item has not varied significantly over this period of time. I believe that the average prices are statistically correct and there isn't much variation between the numbers I have compiled and the numbers that would be obtained if all camera sales were recorded" VERY USEFUL. Thanks a lot! Have a nice day! ;-) Jaume

I am interested in purchasing a tamron AF28-200mm F3.8-5.6 Super II Macro to put on my old FE so that it becomes my traveling camera. Some people tell me that the FE will give false readings on the F stop when you use the zoom since the zoom will change the aperture but the camera will not realize the change. What has been the experience of those who have use a newer AF zoom lens with an FE.Thanks for any assistance you can provide. Arthur

I just bought a Canon Elon Eos 7 with the 28-90 lens. I was wondering, can I use my old 80-200 lens from my old AE1 with my new camera or will it not work properly?

Thanks
Brian
