Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. Nikon Reflex-Nikkor 500mm f/8.0:

Does anyone know how to take apart the above lens to clean it? I have what appears to be light oil film on the front glass (inside) plus some dust. Illustrations would be great. Is there a repair manual that one can purchase if the information is not free?

Thank you.

Have a Canon AE 1 with numerous lenses, want to update to one of the new Digital SLR Canons. Can I use any of my AE 1 Lenses on a new Canon or do I need an adapter of some sort. Could it be that my old lenses are not usable at all.

Thanks Rick!

I will try my hand at cleaning the lens up, however your advice about preventing the fungus spread is well taken. In the meanwhile I've put it in a ziplock outside of the gear bag.

You have a fabulous web site btw.

Hi Mark:

You have what looks like a severe infestation of fungus in that lens. There is some chance that it could be cleaned out, but there is also a fair chance that the fungus has etched the glass and destroyed the lens. If it were me, I would discard that lens immediately without opening it and letting all of that stuff out where it might get into my other lenses. If you do decide to try fixing it, do it well away from your other lenses and cameras and clean up carefully when you're finished.

Hi Carlos:

Sorry, no, there is no good way to use lenses from your T-50 on a Canon DSLR. You will need to get new "EF" series lenses that fit on the EOS autofocus film and digital cameras.

Hi Bill:

The AIS Nikkors will mount and operate on the D-90. I don't think the light meter will work, in which case you'll have manual-only operation and have to use a handheld meter... but someone else may be more up on the details of all of the Nikon compatibility combinations than I am.

I have recieved, as a gift, a beautiful minolta XD11 kit including data back, motorized winder, macro rings, about a half-dozen lenses, etc.

However, my 50mm 1.4 lens has some sort of dirt or pitting on one of the internal elements. The glass in the front is perfect as it was fitted with a filter, as is the back of the lens. It is one of the middle elements that is the problem. Through the viewfinder it appears a little bit cloudy, I have not seen any exposed film through it yet.

Does anybody know how this could happen, if it is fixable or not. I'm not too worried about it at this point, but I am curious.

This is what I am talking about:

I have a Canon T-50 camera. I have a few lenses with this T-50. I would like to know if these lenses can also work with the newer canon ditigal cameras that are on the market now.

Thank you
