Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. I've had a Micro-NIKKOR-P Auto 3.5, 55mm Serial no. 620244
laying around that I've never used. I'm the least technical-savvy person I know. Would this lens work with a simple Nikon FG-20 camera or an FM2? Or would it need--what's it called?--a conversion to AI or AIS? Even then, there's limitations, right? Or limitation with AI but not with AIS? I just don't understand these things.

Hi Everyone,
I have recently purchased a Nikon F 36 motor drive and battery pack in pristine condition. What I find odd is that the motor drive and battery pack both have no the word Nikon written anywhere. In addition the motor drive does not have any serial number. But both things are identical to the Nikon F 36 in everything except the writing. Is there anyone who knows what model i purchased?
Appreciate
Thanks
Alberto

I own several FM’s. Early models, with the knurled switch, and later models.

At one early model the Nikon brand name appears at the back, all the others have just the serial number.
As you see in the pictures the brand-name type is very similar to the Nikkormat EL2.

Are the band-type the very early? When did Nikon change the back? Does anyone knows anything about it?
I’d love to know.

I have an FD 35-105mm f3.5 zoom lens that is malfunctioning. Focus and aperture are not working. Does anyone know a quick fix for this? I need to use the lens tomorrow Thursday 1/22/15.
Any help is appreciated.

I have a D5200 camera and a 70-300 mm f/4.5-5.6G AF Nikkor (62mm) auto focus zoom lens. I can not figure out how to make it auto focus. I'm new to world or cameras, but this is eluding me. Any suggestions? My paperwork says they are compatible and should auto-focus. I can get it to manual focus.
Thanks!

Good afternoon-

I am trying to resurrect some old Olympus OM lenses of mine, to use with a mirrorless digital body I have purchased.

My 350mm f2.8 is behaving oddly... the diaphragm stops down to f22 as I couple it to the body, no matter what aperture is actually set.

I suspect some mechanical coupling in the back of the lens is at fault. I have attempted to get inside the coupling portion of the lens, but... it doesn't seem to open up as my other OM Zuiko lenses do. Thoughts? Does anyone have a parts diagram? Or better, experience with repairs to the 350mm lens?

Thanks,

Hello,

I have a 1934 Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar lens (135 mm) (http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/nikkoresources/RF-Nikkor/Contax_RF/Zeiss-135mm/Zeiss135Sonnar_F.jpg

with its original (damaged) leather bag. Lens in perfect condition.
I was wondering if someone could tell me what's its price on the market of old lenses.
Thanks for your help,

Alex
