The Canon T-90 System |

Modern
Classic SLRs Series : |
The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Does anyone know the maximum load that can be taken by the neckstrap rings on a T90 ?
From published figures, it is an easy matter to determine that the combined weight of the body plus a 35 – 105 lens plus a 300TL flashgun is 2 kilogram. Is this too much ?
Many thanks,
Syd

Gene, the T90 internal battery only preserves the camera's memory of ISO number and frame number when the main battery pack is removed. No other camera functions are affected. Indeed, these internal batteries usually still function well even today. The battery is soldered to the flex circuit, under the LCD readout on the top of the camera. It is a fairly complex procedure to replace it, and one risks ruining the flex circuit in the process. I would undertake it only if I had adequate mechanical and electronic experience.3. How do you replace the backup lithium battery (CR-1220) in a CANON T90 ? I have no idea how long the current battery has been in this camera. It is still operating, but for how long I couldn't guess.
It is difficult to do using Jewelers screw drivers or do you need to send it out for big $$$ to a CANON service depot or the like?
Thanks all for your help!

I have a Canon T90 that seems to work alright except for the remote shutter control. My brother in law gave me the camera and he has told me that he never used the remote socket, (I recently bought the remote switch), so I guess it's probably had the fault from new. (I don't suppose Canon would repair it under warranty now though!) I am using a 60T3 remote switch, and I asssume that it is supposed to switch the light meter on with the first part of the button movement and then fire the shutter when pushed all the way down, similar to the button on the camera. I've dismantled the switch, cleaned the terminals, but they didn't seem bad anyway, and checked continuity with the plug with a multimeter. I've also tried shorting the terminals in the remote socket on the camera with a paper clip, to no avail. From studying the inside of the remote switch and the T90 service manual it seems the longer pin in the camera socket is an earth pin, and when this is connected to one of the other two it switches the meter on, and then when all three are connected it fires the shutter. I assume, but it is never safe to assume, that the remote switch parallels the camera mounted shutter switch. Therefore if there are connections from the remote switch all the way up to the camera switch it should work, and if it doesn't work there must be a lack of connection somewhere. Am I correct. And if so where is the break in the connection? Presumably there is no setting on the camera to disable the socket, and so it just needs activating, (no mention of this in the manuals)? The remote socket is in the battery box at the bottom of the camera, according to the T90 repair manual. As far as I can see you have to peel off the ribbed rubber off the bottom and some of the handgrip. I think that you should be able to get at the wires that go from the socket to the circuit board. However I don't know how delicate an operation that is, there are obviously connections from the main batteries to the inside of the camera as well. Anybody else experience this problem?5. Mark,
I wish I could tell you for certain what your problem may be with your T-90. However, I have found that there is a place in Sparks, NV that specializes in troubleshooting/repair of T-90s (and other cameras as well...)you may want to contact him and see what he has to say regarding your cameras problem. Here is the site: http://www.cameraclinic-usa.com His name is Steve, and he has worked on my T-90 and it now works perfectly, and he stands behind his work as well. I hope this helps....

I have a Canon 300TL flash for my T-90. My question is this, if I were to want, or need, to use my 300TL on my Canon A-1, is there a way to "manually" set the film speed on my 300TL, or is this done automatically on the A-1, just as it is when using it on my T-90??? Again, I don't plan to use the 300TL on my A-1, but...in a pinch, if I needed to use it on my A-1, would the film speed on the 300TL sync. up automatically with my A-1 just as it does with my T-90??? Or...if it will not sync. up and automatically set the film speed on the 300Tl for me when using it on my A-1, is there a way that I can "manually" set the film speed on the 300Tl flash??? I know that I can manually set the film speed on my T-90 if necessary, but....can the film speed be manually set on 300TL flash as well if necessary???

Thank you so much for your time/assistance.

Hello. I have just received a T90 from an Ebay seller. On depressing the shutter button, the camera locks up, without attempting to take a shot. Whilst the button is depressed, a faint clicking sound can be heard. In addition, the small arrow, seen at the top right of the main display, against the word 'single', begins to flash. On releasing the button, the clicking stops, but the arrow continues to flash.
I have only been able to reset the display, by turning the camera off, then on again. New batteries have been installed, and the battery test says that full charge is available.
Can anyone help, please?

Medhi,
Thank you for your very useful and informative information.
I shall now seek out Hama as I can live with its limitations.
