The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

This site is specifically created for this great SLR cameras by Canon. Please don't mail me other than constructive suggestions or rectifying mistakes found in this site, thanking you in advance. The respective Message Boards are some of the HARDEST hit section of the PIM site, if at any one time, the traffic is high - the table/content may take a while to load the data, just be patience. If it stalls, just click on the 'Reload' or 'Refresh' button on your browser menu once to re-attempt. Thank you.

Does anyone know where I can find the manual for the T90 in PDF format? I know it's available on this site in HTML format, but I want to make a hard copy - it would be a bit easier to print it from a PDF file if one is available somewhere.

Thanks, Louise

Can anyone tell me which cases were made for the T90? I have bought a genuine Canon Carrying Case, which is exactly that. It is very good for ferrying the camera between assignments but not for shooting 'on the hoof'. What alternatives are there?

For the chap wanting to use the auto bellows. Here's a link to the instructions: http://www.canonfd.com/abindex.htm

1.) It is not essential but a double cable release and a cable release switch for the T90 allow you to focus with the lens open, stop it down to meter and then release the shutter without touching the camera or bellows. I believe the switch is available new. The double release may still be available from Canon although other companies make them too (Nikon, Mamiya, etc.)

2.) You have to meter with the camera and lens stopped down.

There is an adapter from Canon that allows FD bellows (or lens) to be mounted on an EOS body.

Good luck & cheers,

Duane

Need some help w/ a Canon Auto-Bellows and T90:

I just got a used auto-bellows and would like to ultimatly use it w/ a Canon D30 (if someone can help with this please do so). For now I can use it w/ my T90 and 50mm 1.8 lens. I have a few questions:

1. How do I trigger the lens and camera - do I need a dual cable release or can I just set the lens to my desired aperture and shoot in manual mode.

2. And related to that how do I determine expsure? Will the T90's metering work if it does not have a lens attached to it (in that it is attached to the end of the bellows).

THanks so much - first time to work w/ a bellows and I did not get a manual with it. Only paid $50 for it so I can't complain. I'm also wanting to use an enlarger lens w/ it if anyone has had success w/ this.

Thanks,

John Lega

Re my two previous messages re e-mail for John Lowe, repairer of Canon T90s; having now read his own note on page 2 of the Board, try jl@4duncalf.freeserve.co.uk. Sorry about this. The good news is that my photography is better than my collection of e-mail addresses these days.

My previous message recommending John Lowe for UK repairs to T-90s would be even more effective if I had given the correct e-mail address: gillandjohn@4duncalf.freeserve.co.uk.

Having just scrolled down the list of messages on the board, I note that he has offered his services via this route already. So, go for it. Despite Canon's story, most parts are still available.

As many of us know by now, our beloved Canon T-90s are all reaching a certain age when shutter failure, EEEE messages and old fashioned electrical or mechanical failure threaten to bring a way of life to an end. Canon are 'unable' to help - so what next?

In the UK at least, help is at hand via a contact, now a friend, found over the internet a few months ago. John Lowe, who can be contacted on johnlowe@4duncalf.freeserve.co.uk. John has now twice saved me from despair, making different essential repairs with great care and with entirely satisfactory performance thereafter. I have given references on a bilateral basis to other T-90 users - this is my first public statement. If anyone needs further direct comment, please e-mail as above. Otherwise, breathe a sigh of relief and contact John. Let me know if it doesn't work.

If anyone is looking for any accessories for the T90, a good site to keep an eye on is Ebay.co.uk and when you search, make sure you choose "available to the U.K."
Focussing screens especially, pop up on quite a regular basis.
