The Canon T-90 System |
|
Modern
Classic SLRs Series : |
The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Why no one answer me? Does anybody know if fill in flash (in TTL or A-TTL) mode can be made with Metz 3000 series (i.e. 40 MZ 2)attached with SCA 3101/3102 or with Canon EZ/EX series? The SCA 311 designed for T90 is not work since the ambient light metering is cancelled. Please tell me if you know Thanks2. From : Ken D (kdurling@earthlink.net)

JohnS - Mine just goes dark. No dashes.

Mickey - That's interesting. Sounds like the repair guide would be an interesting thing to have, if it has a lot of extra info like that. However, the phenomenon I was describing is I think a bit different, as it is a slowing down of the normal advance mechanism when in single shot mode, not a switching from high to low speed advance when in continuous. The latter is described as a battery safety in the user's manual. It just sounds like the camera is laboring. Ken4. From : Mickey Oberman (mickeyobe@internetlook.ca)

Ken D and Brad Smith, Another possible cause of the camera switching to the slow advance speed may be the diapragm-operating ring of the lens. If it isn't moving smoothly, the excessive load will cause the camera to switch from high speed to low speed. (This from the T90 Repair Guide.)5. From : JohnS (jjs345@aol.com)

I noticed in the viewfinder of one of my T90s that when the camera is taking a picture, the "numbers area" on the bottom turns to dashes. On the other it does not. Curious as to what others see/experience. TIA

Brad - Thanks for posting. I did replace the batteries, and it fixed it just like you say. I had forgotten that I had swapped out the nice Li AAs to my flash at a wedding, and put some offbrand batteries in the camera. Like you I suspect some strangeness in the power loss curve - mine was donw to two bars, where it *should* still work. Come to think of it I was experiencing another, seemingly unrelated symptom - the vertical exposure indicator on the right side of the viewfinder was occasionally getting really bright and illegible. I think that has gone away with the new batteries, too.7. From : Brad Smith (uk.org.bradleysmith@brad)

Lat response to Ken D's posting about the whining, laboured film advance. I have experienced the very same thing. I cleaned all the contacts, no difference. I cleaned them again, no difference. I put new batteries in - Bingo! i put old ones back in, problme came back. Put new ones in - Okay and still no problems 6 films later. I tested the old batteries on a voltmeter and they seemed to be okay so it must have been some kind of ampage problem. Anyway, just make sure you have a fresh set of batteries on standby at all times. Brad
P.S. You need to kind of reverse my email address if you want to contact me.8. From : Marv (imjamie@att.net)

As an addendum to my earlier post. Took the camera in for repair and they found that the DC to DC circuit board was going out causing the heating issue. Only $65 for the board, but around $125 for labor to repair and clean it. Not really all that bad to keep such a great camera going. Marv9. From : Marv (imjamie@att.net)

Sent an e-mail to John about this, but though I might ask it here to see if anyone else has ever had this issue and what might have caused it. I recently powered up my T90 camera, after a month or so of not using it and the batteries appeared to be dying. I put a fresh set in and the compartment and bottom of the camera got pretty warm. The batteries were almost too hot to touch when I took the battery tray out of the camera. This happened once before, a few years ago with a different brand of batteries, but it worries me some. When it happened back then, I replaced the batteries and the problem went away. Any ideas as to what might cause this phenomenon?10.
