The Canon T-90 System |

Classic SLRs Series : |
The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Spirit, this may sound silly, but you have tried pushing the slider switch from L to A haven't you ?
Failing that, I wonder if the battery that powers the information screen has died.
How old is the camera and how long is it since it was used

My sister recently gave me her Canon T90. She'd never had it out of the box; received as a prize. It was/is solidly packed in it's hard shelled case. The problem is: I can't figure out how to get it to turn on! We've tried everything the manual said to do; we've tried several different brands of batteries, as well. We've looked in the compartment for the batteries and nothing seems to be amiss. We have film in it, we've tried different lenses. I would greatly appreciate any help. We would like to use the camera. Thank you!3. From : Mickey Oberman (mickeyobe@rogers.com)

Philip Atkinson,
Since you have nothing to lose if this doesn't work I suggest you
soak the entire battery holders in white vinegar. Then rinse in water. Repeat if necessary. That just might clear the corrosion. If the contacts are still sound you can then use an emery board or sandpaper or a file to remove any residue and ensure good contact with the batteries.

I am clearing my dad's camera collection for my mum (he is in a nursing home). He has two canon T90 bodies and various lenses but he left the batteries in and both battery holders have been variously eaten. One body has suffered a little marking externally but internally the terminals seem fine, the other is perfect externally but there is more serious corrosion at the base of the battery compartment.
Is it worth trying to source new battery holders for both bodies?5. From : Robert Korn (robert.korn@gmail.com)

I don't believe the T90 would be compatible with your lenses, the T80 lenses ONLY work with the T80 body because of the auto focus capability.6. From : EK Wong (wong_ek@yahoo.com)

re: Nigel Pickstock (badgesandannuals@netisp.co.uk)
Dear Nigel,
the T80 uses the special AC series lens of which there were the 50mm/f1.8, 35-70mm/f3.5 and 70-200mm/f4.5. Each of these lens are FD mount and will work with all A-series and T-series camera bodies. It will also fit into both the old and new F1. However the auto focus function will not work, that is exclusive to the T80 only.
You may like to consider a cheap T80 from eBay7. From : Nigel Pickstock (badgesandannuals@netisp.co.uk)

I am looking for a secondhand T90 carcass as I am advised that this will be compatable with the lenses I had for my now-defunct T80. Or can anyone advise what other camera would fit these lenses?8. From : bob goodheart (superreloader@yahoo.com)

myself a camera repair technician always liked the T-90 because it
was the best camera canon ever made not that I"am bias on canon
products the shutter was its weak and strong point.if you take the
batteries out you won't have the EEEEEE problem because the computer in the camera is not keeping the unit on when not in use
as electrons are not flowing to magnets in the shutter causing the
unit to collect dirt and a type of oil the only thing needing re placement is the memory battery after 10 years or more.9. From : Russell Guerrero (Sanguer2003@yahoo.com)

I don't think you will have trouble using the Canon 299T flash on the Canon T90. In fact, you will still be able to use the fast 1/250 sync shutter speed if you want. However, you will get a photo where the flash will be your main source of light.
When using the 300TL, the flash can be used in A-TTL mode. I find this quite handy when I want just a little fill flash in my photo. I also like using the FE lock when I'm taking a photo at night. That mode will keep you from overexposing people in a dark setting.
The 299T will not have these automatic functions.
Since you can find a Speedlite 300TL for under $60, I would really suggest you pick one up. It makes using the Canon T90 easy to use. Then, read up on how to use it. It might seem complicated at first, but when it starts making sense, you will get great results.10. Hi, can anyone tell me what shortcomings the 299tl (which I already have) would have with my t 90 compared to the 300tl? Thanks, Kurt
