The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Bharat,

The item you want is a genuine Canon accessory. It is the 'vertical shutter release' and I assume that it may also fit early EOS bodies, may even have been introduced for the EOS range instead of the T90 - I cannot find a date for issue of this item. The item is quite rare and can be expensive. You could try eBay; there have been two listed in the last 2 years, so you might get lucky.

Hullo folks!
Greetings to all T90 zealots!

I am trying to locate an accessory I saw once fitted on a T90 20 yrs back. (It may not even be a dedicated T90 accessory but none the less works on it very well; possibly may belong to another Canon camera system.) Here goes:
1. Description: A small Infra Red button, or at least tha tis how it looks. Approximate size of this button is equal to the remote socket cover. It glows a dull transuscent red in bright light.
2. Where it fits: It screws into the socket meant to receive the Remote Switch T603.
3. What it does: When depressed it triggers the shutter. Effectively, it acts like a vertical grip shutter release - with the battery copmpartment forming the so-called vetical portion of the grip!

Shall be very grateful if anyone can lead me to it. Kindly mail me at khukri7@gmail.com or khukri@hotmail.com

Thanking you all for your time,

Sincerely,
Bharat Shahane.

Metz 60CT-4/Canon T90 TTL Issue Solved:

WoW.....What a ride this has been!! The steps that got me to this point are truly amazing---Here Goes: About a year ago I started putting pieces together to adapt a 60 CT-2 flash unit I own to work with my T90. I became apprehensive when I read somewhere that using a flash with a trigger voltage of more than 5VDC may damage the circuitry of the T90. I continued to look for and finally obtained the needed components needed only to find out the CT60-2 will not work with the T90/metz 500C converter(the metz sca-510 can be used and will give basic shutter/aperture automation). The voltage(trigger)of the CT-2 of 28 volts is of no concern as I have documentation from canon that any flash unit that can be attached to the camera by any means & will not damage the unit provided caution is used.
Knowing that the 60CT-4 unit is TTL compatable, I started looking for one. I obtained the the SCA-300A cord & SCA-311 adapter & after some months I snagged a CT60-4 unit without battery(didn't need it as the ct60-2 battery is the same) for a very good price which came with a 100 day warranty. I was in business at last....or so I thought. I hooked everything together & wa-la...no TTL. Everything else was fine except TTL. Off to the Metz Tech support as well as a new found friend from this site. After a hand full of emails the German Eng. thought the flash was in need of servicing so I contacted the firm I purchased it from & in a wks.time I had a replacement. Hooked everything up and Wa-La......nothing again, no TTL. What the!@#$@#$%^&%^&*&.
Now, I'm thinking to myself, the SCA adapter is damaged....but why does it still work in all other modes????
I go to Ebay to check & see if any units are up for sale and though these canon adapters are generally not found too often 1 was just listed so I email the guy & asked him several questions specifically concerning the TTL functionality & although he could not answer me with any centainty(he used his with a AE-1/P) His last statement set off alarms in my mind."if you google this problem you'll find many people with the came issue".
This one liner led to the answer. Here is my response to Him:
"Thanks so much for the insight.I looked at the manual again & realized the unit only works in TTL Mode when the lock on the flash is in the locked position & the camera is set to Av mode aperture priority.Nowhere is this mentioned in the manual but true to Metz/German way of explaining things unclearly, once you decipher their speak, the truth becomes somewhat clear."
And so there it is,The 60CT-4/TTL & the T90 "ONLY" Functions when the camera is set to Av.
Case Solved.Mike

Good to find a web resource on oldies such as the T90. I have one of this (still). But seldom uses it but my son needs a camera and found this lovely site. Will point him to read your content. Must have been putting tons of effort as I have spent 2 hours reading and the links are plenty to other good resources (such as the awesome collection of FD lenses). THANK YOU.

If counter will zero, and film cartridge is inserted inside the camera, film normally is being loaded. I.e. forwarded about 4 frames. And does this also happen in the case of lost back-up information?

It would practically make the T90 impossible to use without internal battery...

Mickey,

The back-up battery can last an awfully long time, but I have never tried leaving one in for 20 odd years before replacing. As my T90s are regularly serviced back-up has been routinely changed, they are so cheap it's daft not to. If you have had your T90 repaired/serviced by somebody following the official schedule, then the battery will have been replaced. If back-up is dead and the main batteries die or are removed, counter will zero.

Bronstejn & R. G. Middleton,

Turning off the camera will not result in the loss of the count of the number of exposures. I almost always turn of my camera between exposures and the count has always remained correct.

I have had my T90 since 1985 and have never replaced the back up battery.

Mickey

You asked how to check if Back Up had failed. As to operation of camera, all you have to remember is to keep well charged main batteries in camera. Do not switch off camera during exposure of whole cassette worth of film. This will stop counter zeroing and messing up frame count, as will happen if main on/off switch is used.
