The Canon T-90 System |
|
Modern
Classic SLRs Series : |
The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Could someone tell me, if I'm using a teleconverter with a lense set on A can I trust the TTL metering or do I need to make manual adjustments? Thanks Joe

Brian, I wonder where you are, such that at 5:00pm CST on April 28 I am reading your posting of April 29, 3:10am--about a 10 year difference. Just curious. Consider yourself VERY lucky in your dealing with CanonT90. Others have not been so fortunate7. From : Luigi D. Sandon (cp@sandon.it)

jC: the flash is working properly. A-TTL is meant for "fill-in" flash, and will "adapt" to existing ambient light. Look in the previous posts, we had recently a discussion on the same matter. You will also find a link a a useful paper from Canon wich explains better 300TL features.8. From : Atol (Atol@spydernet.com)

It seems that there are couple of variations to clear EEE/HELP problem and to put T90 back to life. When my camera failed the same way (six months ago) I tried all possible "games" with it and finally found "HIGH continuous firing" treatment. It brought my T90 back to life, as well as several others of the people to whom I suggested the method. Your "winding" method maybe works the same, and would be great if we have back to this board some results and comments regarding both methods (for the sake of all the other T90 owners who could encounter the same problem). What makes me curious is your state that you've got perfect even the photos, which were on your first roll (when you had to press "battery check" button after every single shot due to EEE/HELP signal). From my experience in the case of EEE/HELP problem, the shutter does not open at all (stays locked - stacked), so you have as result, a completely empty (unexposed) film. By pressing the "battery check" button you just reset the firing mechanism, but the shutter doesn't unlock itself - it remains stacked and therefore after the next shot you have again EEE/HELP). Finally, EEE/HELP tends to appear again (meybe there is thruth in the statement of "shutter lubrication") but here above mentioned method clears the problem and prolong normal working of the camera. During last six months I had another one EEE/HELP stroke, but the "medicine" still works9. From : jC (JccTTT@yahoo.com)

I have recently acquired a speedlite 300TL to go with my T90. I does not seem to be functioning as the manual suggests it should. WHen I try to use the ATTL function, it rarely lets me take a picture with a shutter speed above 60, unless there is plenty of ambient light. one example, I used the program mode of the flash, with the camera on shutter priority (at 125), and it showed displayed shutter speed of 60, aperture varied depending on where I focused the lense. however, when I used Attl, and used the same settings, it flashed an error in the aperture, and wanted me to adjust my shutter speed to 1/2. I took the camera and the flash to a repair shop to see which was broken, or if I just do not understand the manual. we tried the flash on another T90 adn it did the same thing, and we tried another flash on my T90 and it still flashed an incorrect aperture. it says in the flash manual that if the aperture blinks, you need to adjust your shutter speed, but it seems like that is taking away everyting that they say this flash is supposed to do. Am I expecting to much, am I using it wrong? why can't I get it to take a picture in Attl mode wth a shutter speed greater than 60? do I have to only use mannual mode? Program seems to work okay, but it changes everyting to 60.... I may be jumping the gun a little, because i havent gotten my rollof film back yet. but I am just wonedring about the settings...

posted this nearly a year ago.....
Hi all, I must say I have enjoyed discovering this web site and the T90 discussion group.
My input is the topic of camera time delays. I bought a T70 in the early 80's, and wondered why the shots of my (then young) children didn't seems as good as those through my Canon RM. The I bought a second hand low mileage T90 in the mid 90's, and also had problems capturing the exact moment. I put it down to advancing years... Howevr, finding this marvellous web site and the links has rekindled my enthusiasm in photography. I remembered reading an article by Norman Goldberg in Popular Photography October 1986, and found it in my collection. He devised a setup to measure the time lag from press of shutter button to the pulse of light through the camera box.
His results are thus:-
Canon AE-1 86ms (86/1000 seconds)
Canon AE-1 Prgrm 185ms
Canon T80 230ms
Canon T90 86,180,215ms **
Canon T70 100ms
He comments that the T90 is a 'jumper', the time lag depends on whether the shutter button is partially depressed, activating the exposure metering circuitry. From cold, ie literally grab and shoot, the time lag is 215ms.
Interesting stuff,eh? many thanks for your interesting web site, and the discussion group regards David
