The Canon T-90 System |

Modern
Classic SLRs Series : |
The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Considering a flash diffuser (Stofen Omni Bounce seems to be the only commercially available one at moment...) but worried about having to exposure compensate - i.e. will I need to? (Am referring to the infra-red pre-flash mode as opposed to the 1/20th pre-flash mode)... Stofen claim do not need to - they say it just reduces flash distance by factor of 2.5.2. Has anybody seen the service notes for the Data back listed on the net. One I have records the data Ok but fails to imprint and in D or RD mode the whole display flashes. I've tried new batteries, cleaned the contacts but doesn't fix the problem. I note in the instructions on the databack under LCD display it says if this happens to return it to Canon for servicing. Does anybody still service these?3. From : Syd Croft (s.croft@blueyonder.co.uk)

Nigel, The last e-mail address I have for John Lowe is:- jillyandjohn@lineone.net I hope he is still in business, if only for the reassurance of knowing he is there if anything does go wrong. I hope this helps4. From : Alan Swartz (aswartz@earthlink.net)

George, I've had a similar experience with the low-battery indicator, I think for the battery that imprints the data on the film. I've not had any problems with random or scrambled data recording. That sounds to me like something worse than just a battery or voltage issue.5. From : Alan Swartz (aswartz@earthlink.net)

Gene, remove the lens's aperture ring from the "A" mark and depress the stop-down slide. Adjust the aperture on the lens, and the T90 will calculate a shutter speed for you. To return to full-aperture metering and auto exposure, depress the slide again to release it, then set the lens back to "A."6. From : Gene McClung (gmcclung@earthlink.net)

Just want to share my experience today of buying a mint condition Data back for my T90... I posted earlier re this when I was considering buying. Sadly I have to report it seems very "buggy" and if anyone has some quick-fix solutions please let me know otherwise I will regretably have to send it back. Problems are as follows:
1. Low battery warning indicator for Battery 2 displays despite new batteries fitted... contacts all appear perfectly clean (swapped the batteries again just to rule out a duff "new" battery). I removed BOTH batteries for a few minutes and refitted them (Batt 1 followed by Batt 2 as per manual).. initially (when the CLEAR button pressed) I had a normal looking screen - I was able to set date/time/lens size... BUT whilst scrolling through my settings the battery low indicator returned (also Batt 1 indicator came on!)
2. Fired off a few test shots and INITIALLY the last shot exposure settings shown on display were correct.. however, when I scrolled through the data for these 5 shots I noticed that the data was wrong - it appeared to have changed and remained changed - e.g. ISO showed 64 when should have been 50, shutter spped and apertures slightly wrong, frame counter despite being initially set to 0001 was counting from 2963 (or similar) - basically ALL wrong... plus the date had advanced approximately a month. Whilst scrolling through this spurious data the screen cleared and I was left with just a low batt indicator showing and I had to reset the whole thing again!!!
---as I said this is a mint condition unit - no signs of damage etc. I am really disappointed but cannot use it like this... unless you folks have any ideas?8. From : Luigi D. Sandon (cp@sandon.it)

Data back: actually the site (http://www.sigma957.org/dmb.html) explains how to build an RS-232 interface, which is a widely used standard in PCs too, also know as "serial port" (the one external modems where used to connect to). Although some recent models doesn't have one, there are USB-to-Serial adapters available. IMHO, buying an MSX computer is not a good solution, because it would need the interface module too (I don't know if it was sold with the databack, I think it wasn't), and when data are there I don't know how easy would be to move then on another system.
I have a database of my photos (I am a software engineer so I made a custom program tailored to my tastes), and I'd like to load exposure data from the camera directly, not to copy them by hand. I was thinking about looking for the data back, as long as I can find someone to build and program the interface.9. From : TomR (trigilano@netscape.com)

leica, Essayez une recherche de John Lowe sur ce conseil. Il fait des réparations sur T-90s et d'autres appareils-photo. Je pense qu'il est en England. TomR.10.
