The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Hi, I have a question about my T90. It switches to the slower
drive speed and seems to be draging even in the slower speed.
I've replaced the batteries, tried different lenses and even had
a repair shop replace the transport circuit. I've sent the camera
back to the repair shop 3 times and they refuse to fix it. Has
anyone heard of this problem, or know anything about it? The camera has become useless to me in this condition. Please help if you can.
Thanks, Ken

My T90 appeas to have died.
When switching it on the frame counter just flashes and the shutter does not fire.
I understand this may be due to the internal battery being exhausted.
Can anyone tell me how to replace this myself.
Does anyone have an electronic version of the service manual?

Thanks

I've been trying to find a focusing screen for my T90. Either a type C or a brightscreen or a Beattie Intenscreen. I have tried a lot of online stores as well as ebay. No luck so far. Anybody here have one for sale or know of a place that might carry one?

Thanks.

To Steve S. on the use of a vivitar 283 flash with the T90- I use a Sunpak 622 Superpro powered by a 6v, 4500mAH lead-acid battery which hangs on my belt, and have shot approximately 200 rolls of film without a problem. (knock on wood). For a smaller flash though, get the 300. They match well.

Later.

Dear Mickey, In defense of your vision and for more time with the kids,, happy to try. What to look for as you examine a used camera and especially one as complex as the T90.--- I saw four in a shop not long ago. None were selling fast. Why not? I expect it was that each camera just looked like it had seen hard times. Look at the hot shoe for instance. If it is scraped and bent, you can guess the camera was handled roughly. Look carefully through the viewfinder. Is the finder clear or full of crud. If it has crud, that means a disassembly and cleaning which are not budget items. Look at the battery holder and the battery compartment. Any sign of battery leakage, If a little Ok, if a lot, be careful, the leakage could have gotten into the works. Not likely, but possible. Try each of the functions. Low speed, high speed. Observe and listen to the shutter. Run it many times an see how it responds. The T90 has a solid shutter sound, like shifting a high end racing bike. A nice thunk. look for shutter scratches or oil on the vertical blades.. When you move the control wheel notch by notch, is it solid, or sloppy and does it advance by one increment or more than one f stop/shutter speed.. Not fatal, but tight is nicer than sloppy. Check each of the buttons that show LED readout in the finder. Both the one next to the release and the one on the back right should work. Check the little light in the palm panel. You may never use that light but it should be operational for PS 275 what, Check for any crack in the plastic lug on the righ. It is plastic and has been known to crack. Check each function of course, including battery check, and stop down lever with a lens mounted. See that the LEDs are all completely legible in the finder and that the stopped down display of values is sharp and clear (you need to review the online manual to see what to see naturally), Happily, the T90 is a sturdy and robust entity. I would like to shoot a fast roll with it to see if the wind and autorewind function are working reliably. Should be possible I think if the seller is cool dude or dudess. And I am positive I have left out a few items, but someone else will recap them as my mind turns to thoughts of warm summer nights in the company of her grace. Cheers, E.B.B.

can anyone tell me if the vivitar 550 FD flash unit would be a fully dedticated flash for my T-90. If not, what other flash unit besides the canon speedlite 300TL would work.
Thanks, Bill.

I have been using a T70 for many years and always wanted a T90 but at the time I didn't have the money. I have the opportunity to purchase a T90 for £249 UK. and was wondering if anyone could give me advice on particular items to look out for on a used T90. I have spent hours reading through 650 threads and my eyes have just about had enough. Please help. Thanks - Mick.

Does anyone in this forum have experience with the use of Braun Ultrablitz 32 M or 34 M with the T 90 using the SCA 300 connector?

Sincerely

Erik
