The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Can anyone tell me why the Canons T50, T60, T70, T80 and T90 are not listed in McKeown's? Or, if they are, where?

Paul, The strap lug is a part of the switch assy under the palm wing. There's an new, improved part made of metal, wich is just the lug mounted on a small plate. What you have to do is to saw off the upper part of the whole thing and glue the new part on top of it with Araldite or some other epoxy glue. Takes a while and good patience. IF you manage to get the part. I bought one here in Norway some years ago, cost was about $7. I tried again this year but now it cost $70! Probably because Canon has outsourced the parts department. I ended up with making my own out of metal and glued it to the original part. BTW the part number your're looking for is CG9-2676-000. It should still be availible as a spare part. Ketil

Paul - I believe the RH strap lug is integrated with the LCD cover. I see those parts on eBay from time to time. Ken

I have aT90 with the right hand (looking through the lense) strapholder broken but otherwise perfect. My local canon repair said parts for this were no longer avaiable. Does anyone know where this could be fixed. Thank you

Thank you, everyone who responded to my query about shutter delays. As I almost always shoot my T90 with the shutter release half way down I have never encountered any problems with long delays and have been able to freeze "peak action" as well as moving wild life. I simply use the same judgement I always have with regard to subject speed and angle to camera. But that doesn't work with my Fujifilm Finepix 3800. Although, when I take its somewhat too numerous limitations into consideration, it delivers excellent photographs.Mickey

David - Wow, thanks for the quick response and the interesting info. Glad you're monitoring the group. Makes me realize I almost always shoot from the "half press lag," as dpreview puts it, with my T-90s. It's also fascinating to me the correlations between this and audio (soundcard) latency vs real instruments etc, which is my main field. Can you imagine a piano with 100ms of lag?? Yow. Ken

I posted this nearly a year ago.....

Hi all, I must say I have enjoyed discovering this web site and the T90 discussion group.
My input is the topic of camera time delays. I bought a T70 in the early 80's, and wondered why the shots of my (then young) children didn't seems as good as those through my Canon RM. The I bought a second hand low mileage T90 in the mid 90's, and also had problems capturing the exact moment. I put it down to advancing years... Howevr, finding this marvellous web site and the links has rekindled my enthusiasm in photography.
I remembered reading an article by Norman Goldberg in Popular Photography October 1986, and found it in my collection. He devised a setup to measure the time lag from press of shutter button to the pulse of light through the camera box.

His results are thus:-
Canon AE-1 86ms (86/1000 seconds)
Canon AE-1 Prgrm 185ms
Canon T80 230ms
Canon T90 86,180,215ms **
Canon T70 100ms

He comments that the T90 is a 'jumper', the time lag depends on whether the shutter button is partially depressed, activating the exposure metering circuitry. From cold, ie literally grab and shoot, the time lag is 215ms.

Interesting stuff,eh? many thanks for your interesting web site, and the discussion group regards David

The lag in digitals is all changing fast, and DSLR's have been fast for some time now. I tried out a little Canon SD300, with the new DIGIC II processor, in a store and it was impressively fast, both start-up and shutter lag. I don't fully believe the 190-250ms quote - a quarter of a second! That would be unacceptable. 50-75ms is probably more like it. Ken

Mickey, Ken: didn't someone posted some tests here some time ago? It would be interesting to look in some older posts.
