The Canon T-90 System |

Modern
Classic SLRs Series : |
The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

Regarding the problem of shutter not firing, it is caused by a build up of moisture in the electric shutter release parts thus disrupting electric contacts. when not in use avoid storing your t90 in high temp. I developed this problem recently, if you push the depht of field preview button in and out very fast while firing the shutter at the same time it will solve the problem. The best way to stop this happening is to fire the shutter regular when you are not using it for a while and remember to keep it away from high temp2. From : René Olde Olthof (yamatama3@zonnet.nl)

I've got a problem with my shutter release: every now and then, the shutter does not release and instead I hear sounds (like muffled clicks) as if the camera is trying, but lacks the power to release. The power winder mode symbol (S, H or L) flashes when this problem occurs. It's not a classic EEEEEEEE case, the finder still shows the correct exposure information. And the battery check tells me I've got good batteries.
Does anyone know what this could be?3. From : Luigi D. Sandon (cp@sandon.it)

Syd: when using an accessories that requires stop-down mode, you have to move the aperture ring from "A" just before you mount it on the accessorie. When set to "A" the lens pushes out a pin to inform the camera. Usually, manual accessories have not the "hole" that pin should go in, and it is impossibile to mount the lens when set to "A", it is a safety precaution too because the accessorie can't work in auto mode. On the camera the lens can be mounted and unmounted with the aperture ring set to any settings, the A pin will engage correctly anyway.
The stop-down lever is another matter, because it engages a lever on the lens. If the lens is mounted when the stop-down lever is engaged, the coupling will not be correct. Canon says it will put an heavy load on camera also, and to avoid it. I do not know if it is better to release the stop down lever before unmounting the lens, don't remember if instructions says anything about it. When no lens is mounted, the lever does not engage anything and just inform the camera to change metering mode.
Thus, the procedure to use the Auto Bellows should be as follow:
1) Unmount the lens
2) Set the ring off "A"
3) Mount the lens
4) Mount the camera
5) Push in the stop down lever
6) Adjust magnification and focus
7) Close the diaphgram via the double release cable
8) Meter and take picture.
I prefer to use the bellows' original release because it has a fairly long pin extension which is required to properly close the diaphgram fully at small apertures - when doing macro depth of field is never enough - other cables may not work properly. A T3-cable adapter is easy to find, and allows to use one release button only.
BTW, the identation on the right side of the T-90 bottom looks to be made to allow to rotate it to the vertical position while mounted on the bellows - I do not find any other explanation for it.4. From : Syd C (s.croft@blueyonder.co.uk)

marty, You'll both have to be a bit more specific regarding the problems you're having with the auto bellows. If I recall correctly, the only thing which is not covered in the manual for the auto bellows WRT the T-90 is the use of an cable to T-3 adapter from the double cable release to the T-90; or alternatively using a single cable release (or one cable of the double release) on the bellows AND a t-3 remote release for the T-90. Also, see my response to Syd. Let us know what kind of problems you're encountering and we'll help. TomR.6. From : TomR (trigilano@netscape.com)

Syd, If I recall correctly, ther are four possible combinations of the "A" lens mark and the stop down lever when you mount (or unmount) a lens. One combination that definitely works is to have the lens set to "A" AND the stop down lever off when you're mounting or unmounting. Mickey is probably correct about it being immaterial when unmounting, but this way ALWAYS works. With an FD compatible accessory, like the auto bellows, use the same proceedure. Any other problems with the auto bellows, let us know. TomR.7. From : Mickey Oberman (mickeyobe@sympatico.ca)

John, I think it is probably a good idea to repair your 300TL but get one or more estimates first. Before you do that make sure you have fresh, fully charged batteries and clean the contacts on batteries and in the 33TL. Mickey8. From : Mickey Oberman (mickeyobe@sympatico.ca)

Syd C, If you push in the stopped down lever when the aperture ring is set to "A" you will get the dreaded EEE/HELP message. Take it off "A" and set it to your selected aperture and all will be well. The sequence when removing the lens is immaterial. Mickey

Marty: My question in respect to the stop-down lever is linked to yours. I have recently purchased an Auto Bellows and am still learning how to use it. There is an excellent instruction manual available from http://www.canonfd.com/choose.htm but it does not cover the T90.10.
