The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

This site is specifically created for this great SLR cameras by Canon. Please don't mail me other than constructive suggestions or rectifying mistakes found in this site, thanking you in advance. I have just tested the output of my 300TL (with fresh batteries) with a flashmeter I know to be accurate within 1/3 stop. The results indicate the actual output is significantly lower than the Guide Number. For example @100ASA and 50mm setting, the actual output looks like a GN of 80ft, rather than the specified GN of 114ft. Does anyone think this is because the tube is old and tired and therefore I can look for a replacement, or are canon GNs over-optimistic? Of course this is only important for absolute output, as the metering, othr than in manual, will take account of actual output.

John from Malta, See item 34 (this number might change by the time you get to it) on pages 251-300. It is a message from me citing Morgantown Camera. I was unable to find any Canadian repair shop that would handle my T90 and Canon Canada was a great dissapointment. My camera is still operating like new.

UC: I feel your pain. Here's a wild Erasmus guess about said erratic Metz flash. When this happens, most of the time it is because of a poor connection between the PC (stands for poor connection) jack and the cable that attaches to the Metz. Try a brand new cable for a few denari. Or buy a little gadget called a PC tip conditioner. This is a tiny fitting that will re- shape an old cable on the flash and gently clean up the PC fitting. As to your 300TL, you didnt give enough info for Erasmus or any of the wizards of the forum to even guess what is wrong. But if you mean is the flash worth fixing, why not.( Unless it is over a hundred US dollars and then I might think of shopping for another used 300TL of course)..re: repair despair talk:. If you call one of the places listed by Irwin in his last post on top notch repair shops I think you will get a more positive response. Those places actually have repaired the flash and maybe even have the ability to get a diode or whatnot that it needs. Its a solid bugger.Cheers and keep flashing. As always, Erasmus B. Black

I have a t-90 with the pc alteration but the flash (metz 60ct1) does not flash all the time. Help. Also the 300tl does not function as the book describes. One company says the repair was not economical. What is up?

I'm trying to set up my AE-1P for use with my longer telephtos (read hard to focus with split image) and looking in my copy of Lens Work the screens for the T-90 and AE-1P are grouped together while the F-1 and A-1 screens both have seperate listings does anybody know if this indicates that the T-90 and the AE-1p uses the same screens this would sure make my search for a plain matte AE-1P screen easier. I am thinking about switching over a A-1 for this type of screen but that involves a repair tech to do the work. (read cost!) also if anybody has a Matte screen for a AE-1P I prefer plain one lines like a C or a I screen I'm in the market cash in hand. Email me off list to sell on list to advise. Mark W.

I am in desperate need of the following: Focus Screen C, D, H and L. If somebody has one of these and wants to sell it please drop me a note. Thanks very much.

Please tell me the best vehicles to sell my T90's and other Canon best of breed equipment. My eyes are no longer capable of quick and sure manual focus. Internet vehicles please. I love shutterbug, however I am internet savvy, but despise the likes of eBay. In the high end audio world there are trading sites like, audioweb.com and auidogon.com that are many steps above the 'auction' sites. Anything like that in photo?

Congratulations for the new look of this site! Just some little suggestions: Start with number 1 the first e-mail? Add the list of the keywords?. Add a field in the e-mail page to write some orientative keywords? Thank you very much for your efforts! Have a nice day. Jaume ;-)

Boy am I so glad to see that John Liu's review is still available. Write down that link sportsfans... When I gave the other chap the link I left out consonant and a hyphen.-So shoot me already :-). Also I am DEEElighted that the Canon Reference Guide to the 300 TL Speedlite published by Canon USA back when is now online at Yahoo. For a while you well know there was a reluctance to publish this guide because it is marked as a copyright item. Like OY, they'll SUE (For me, a tech manual given wide distribution by a manufacture doesn't fit the copyright protection idea... I make copies of everything for the good of my fellow menschen ..but those who tiptoe carefully around legal stuff had to pause before sending it off to Malaysia for posting I guess) Now that Yahoo has this opus, like maybe Leofoo/Kaipin can bring it onboard (hint). A word to the wise, even WITH this manual the 300TL don't believe its not gonna take some thinking. Answers beget questions beget answers just like the Talmud..Maning we's talking here the thinking person's flash. Just like the T90 is thinking man/woman's camera. So tell Irwin he is wrong, I dare you. You want easy, so go buy an Elph. Yours truly,Irwin Schmedrick, still purveying the dog treats in a sluggish market.
