The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

This site is specifically created for this great SLR cameras by Canon. Please don't mail me other than constructive suggestions or rectifying mistakes found in this site, thanking you in advance. SkateboardPhoto: the T90 uses the same FD lenses. The T90 is a bit more complex than the A-1, due to its advanced features. Get an instruction book and read it carefully, to take advantage of them. Nothing really difficult, but its "inteface" is a bit different.
The T90 meter offer spot, semispot and average metering, coupling range EV 0-20 (100 ISO, 50/1.4). Is it efficient enough for you? :-) The T90 itself has no flash radio trigger or the like (it has a IR remote control accessoire, however), however there are third party tools to accomplish it (Quantum, Multiblitz, etc). Do you really need it? It is useful in studio phtography, no cable clutter and no photocells issues, anyway you lose TTL metering.

I am thinking of buying the T90. I am excited to see that it's flash syn is 1/250, not 1/60 like my A1. I have a few questions. Will my lenses that fit my A1 also fit on a T90? Also, is the T90 very complicated? Does it have an efficient light meter? Does it have an operation to fire flashes remotely via radio transmitter or other???

I hope all these questions can be answered.

Photo's that are dull and grainy are a sure sign that the negative was under exposed.
As the printing tech tries to lighten the print it makes the grain more pronounced ... and the since it was under exposed there is very low colour saturation.
The higher speed films are a grainer film ... so it will get more pronounced the higher the speed.

It sounds as if the interal metering is off or there is something blocking the sensors.
Recommend getting the camera metering serviced.

As an experiment change the exposure compensation to +2 EV ... this will over expose by two stops ... so if the meter is under exposing by two stops this will balance it out.

Matthew: did you check with the lab, and did you check the negatives? If the camera did not work well it should end up in underexposed or overexposed images, totally or partially. The printing process should try to compensate, that's why I'd check the negatives. But grainy images and so on might be the consequence of a bad development too - what kind of development did you use?

Having heavy grain, dull pictures with t90 - batteries fine, camera appears to work fine but picture quality is bad and gets worse the higher the iso. Fuji Reala 100 should have given good pix but the quality in all light conditions dull and grainy.
Has ben true for many months. Help please before I give up on this camera.
Matthew

Does anyone have a command back 90 for sale which is in good/excellent/mint condition.I am told one problem which can occur is that the screen can leak/bleed.

Syd: you can't use a 155A because it's not a TTL unit. If set to auto, it will meter itself, if set to manual it will fire at full power. The T90 will not be able to control it - and the final outcome it's not easy to predict.

I intend employing two 300TL flash units on my T90, using the appropriate Canon hot shoe adapters in conjunction with a distributor.
Unfortunately I only have one 300TL at the moment. What will happen if I use it with a Speedlite 155A as an interim measure ?

Had not used my 2 T90s for 2 years and was wondering whether they still worked. Bought 2 rolls of 200 film and went to a friends daughters wedding last week at the tresel bridge Noojee in a very bushy location. Slipped the 50mm 1:1.2 and the 20mm lens on the other body and took only 48 photos but they were all good shots. Other photos were taken with a digital but they were all blurred from low light conditions and the shot gun approach to photography. I must join the Melbourne camera club and learn how to get the most from these antiques whilst they still work.
