The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

The respective Message Boards are some of the HARDEST hit section of the PIM site, if at any one time, the traffic is high - the table/content may take a while to load the data, just be patience. If it stalls, just click on the 'Reload' or 'Refresh' button on your browser menu once to re-attempt. Thank you.

Bruce,

Turning it 90 degrees to the right should allow it to slip out easily. If not, the batteries may be corroded. If that is the case I suggest trying to get vinegar into the battery case a few drops at a time. Then wait for a while and gently try to remove it again. You may have to repeat this numerous times. You may see foam coming out of the compartment.Do not force anything as those cases are hard to find. If and when you get it out the camera's battery contacts will need cleaning. Be gentle.

Mickey

I cannot release the battery pack from a used T90 I just bought from e-bay seller. I twist the battery release latch 90 degrees (as it does not feel as if it will go further) but the pack will not pull out. What am I doing wrong, if anything.
Any help most welcome!

George, you are absolutely right. This is how it works. Sounds manual, but TTl works just fine the way you explained it.

ML3 Ring Flash + FD200mm F4 macro - forcing 1/250 shutter speed for handheld shooting?... beginning to doubt Richard Hunecke's advice in his T90 book - but is the following correct: If I want a simple way to choose fastest shutter speed using this flash (I assume 1/250 is fastest avail for this flash) then I rotate the aperture ring off the "A" setting and select any aperture I like (need large apertures for Macro shots) - the shutter speed defaults to 1/250 in viewfinder and an "M" displayed but despite the "manual" mode I can rely on TTL metering to actually carry out a correctly exposed shot?? So it is a manual setting yet would appear to offer me auto convenience? Seems too good to be true but this is what the book tells me...

Luc, I did find a ex T90 Canon Technician in Britain, who has repaired Shutters and serviced 2 T90 for me four yrs ago for GBP 50.00 each and absolutely working fine.He used to advertise in ebay with 100% feedback. He has also repaired a AE1-P for me. You could contact him through 0107wood@tiscali.co.uk

Regards

Antony

Celeste,

As a supplement to Mickey's explanation, here is a link to PIM's main index page for the T-90, which includes a link to the instruction manual.

If you need any help with what Mickey wrote, something in the manual, or anything regarding the T-90, let us know. Somebody here has probably had the same problem or question already.

Shoot on. Film is cheap.

The Zing 'large' SLR case (not the Pro)fits my T90 with a standard 50mm f1.8 lens with room to spare. With a 55mm f1.2 (a very fat lens) it still fits but more snugly. I bought mine from chambrenoir(?), I think, in Canada. This was cheaper than I could find in the UK. I can't seem to find him on the web now though, sorry. He advised me to get the large one, as the standard size would be too small. All in all, I think the Zing is probably the best substitute for an ERC around. Obviously there is no ERC, as the camera has controls on the front, back and sides.

Celeste,

The T90 is designed to operate at full aperture regardless of the aperture set on the lens. It will stop down to your preselected aperture automatically when you press the shutter release to take a picture and will open up to full aperture immediately.

You cannot see the depth of field at any aperture unless the lens is stopped down. The stopped down lever enables you to do just that.

To see the affect of the stopped down lever turn your lens's aperture ring to an small aperture.

While looking through the viewfinder push the stopped down lever all the way in.

You will see the screen darken and be able to observe the depth of field.

Push the lever in again to release it and allow the lens to open to full aperture and the camera to operate.

It may take some practice for you to observe the depth of field. Persist.

Mickey
