The Canon T-90 System |

Modern
Classic SLRs Series : |
The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

This is kind of the wrong board for this, being a T-90 board, but here's a link to a FT QL manual: http://yandr.50megs.com/canon/ft/ft.htm I shot with one for years, so if you have any question the manual doesn't make clear, feel free to e-mail me. Ken D3. From : Kim (kattz7@moggies-and-more.com)

I have recently inherited a CanonFT-QL Camera from my late grandfather. However, it does not come with a manual or users guide. I am
lost trying to figure out how to use this camera. Does anyone have or know of a place that I can find a CanonFT-QL/Manual. Thank you for your help Kim4. From : Medhi Y (medhi@ji-net.com)

Dear Robert and Mickey, after an intensive test with 2 rolls of films, I can make sure that we can use TTL flash metering on T90 using Metz with SCA 311 adapter. I also test with my flash meter (Polaris) and got quite accurate result (with a dummy-expired film loaded in a camera). The slow sync can be made in Tv mode without the need of setting a switch on the SCA to the right. That switch function differently depend on a camera, it controls slow sync in New F-1 but second curtain sync in T90. Anyway, unfortunately, a technical support of Metz told me that it is impossible to do auto fill-in TTL flash on T90 with a Metz unit, he said that that mode can be performed only with original Canon speedlite. I also search information of using EZ/EX Speedlite with T90 on the net and found it is possible to use A-TTL mode with 420/430 EZ (in Av, Tv, and Program AE modes) and 540 EZ (only in Program AE mode). For 380/550 EX, only regular TTL can be performed. Some functions of these flashes can’t be performed on T90 but I can’t find a complete detail. Also don’t know if regular TTL (for 380/550 EX and 540 EZ in other modes except Program AE) can be used along with ambient light metering or not (for fill-in purpose). If someone here knows, please tell me. It’s really hard to find 300 TL in my country.
# Mark- Would you please give me a link to FD group on Yahoo, Thanks.5. From : mark wahlster (awahlster@aol.com)

Mickey, A couple of the EOS flashes will work with the T90 no spot metering or possible A-TTL but they will do normal TTL metering also the ML-2 Macrolite has full TTL funtion with the T90. Ken Durling I believe has some info on the EOS flashes that work with the T90 you might ask him through the canon Fd group on Yahoo. Mark W. To old to pounce I prefer to sneek up from behind!6. Medhi, I may be wrong, and I am sure to be pounced upon if I am, but as far as I can determine, there is no flashgun other than the 300TL that will determine exposure through the lens (TTL) of the T90. I often use a Vivitar 5600 which, itself, determines correct exposure and quenches the light when that expusure has been attained. There are many flashguns that do this. For fill flash I set the film speed on the 5600 two, three or more times higher than the speed of the film I am using. It is a simple procedure that works.7. From : Medhi (medhi@ji-net.com)

Thanks Ken and Robert for reply. It's seem like no one here know the answer. I may have to find a way to try it myself. Will tell you guy when I know since I think it is interesting news for anybody who can't find 300TL but want to use fill-in TTL flash with T90. Medhi8. I'm not sure if this will help Mendhi any, but I use a SCA 311 lead with a Metz C45 head. When I set the flash gun to TTL, select the aperture on the camera and fire it towards a minolta flash meter, it will show that the flash is overexposing by about four stops. If you set the flash gun instead to a specified f stop, it will automatically set a shutter speed of 90th of a sec.So far the only way I have found to get balanced flash is to take an ambient reading with the flash off, and by having the switch on the SCA lead set to the second curtain synch [ set to the right ], this allows you to set a slower shutter speed that will balance with the ambient light. It may be that I am getting something wrong, but the instructions that came with the SCA lead are to say the least sparse, and not being a great lover of flash, I've been happy enough to use this system, but perhaps someone out there can put us right.9. Medhi - Please don't be offended, it's probably because nobody here knows the answer. I know I don't. Ken10. As a follow-up to my post question from a few days ago, the T90 WITH the Command Back installed and turned on will produce dashes on the viewfinder LEDs during exposure...
From the Command Back 70/80/90 Manual(p42):
#5) Exposure Confirmation Indicator:
An exposure confirmation mark (an LCD indicator) lights on the monitor panel for 1.5-2 seconds after exposure has been made. With the Command Back 90, seven-segment LED bars light under the viewfinder of the T90. (the monitor panel they refer to here is the one on the back itself)
So - my T90 without the Command Back works normally during shutter release with a dark LED area, and my second T90 with the Command Back also works normally - when the back is not in the off mode, and ~should~ display the dashes on the LED segments. Hope this helps others using a Command Back 90. Thanks, JohnS
