The Canon T-90 System

Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Canon T-90 - Message Board/Guestbook

The Canon T-90 was the last model that uses FD-mount prior to the shift to the autofocus EF EOS system. It hardly lasted a year since its inception but what an impact it has created on the design of future SLR. Every inch a classic, despite after more than 15 years, this camera is still hard to replicate even by today's standard. It was also widely acclaimed as one of the true Classic camera of modern times. Here comes a common Message Board designed specifically for Canon T90 SLR model - this is especially useful when you realize ALL Canon FD mount SLRs have long been discontinued you may require a public forum for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experience among many of you. This Site has proved to be quite popular and I am quite happy to see these effort was not wasted and special thanks to ALL the volunteered Site Maintainers of this Message Board. Enjoy.

This site is specifically created for this great SLR cameras by Canon. Please don't mail me other than constructive suggestions or rectifying mistakes found in this site, thanking you in advance. ashiq & exnamed: I got a chance to check my T-90s this morning and found the following. In spot metering mode the blue verticle display will display information for the spot metering modes, whether or not there is film in the camera. However, in either center weighted or averaged metering modes the blue display behaves differently depending on whether or not there is film in the camera. With no film, I get no blue display for these two metering modes. With film, the blue diaplay acts as a frame counter (countdown type) in both center weighted and average metering modes.

I ran the tests in each of Tv, Av and P exposure modes. I had thought that this was what I recalled, but didn't want to pass on bad information until I had checked. Let us know if this helped with your problems. TomR,

George, Keep an eye out for a "parts camera" or call a reputable service tech and ask for one from a dead camera. I would think shutter parts or electronics would be in higher demand than battery holders. Chris

Erasmus, I considered bidding on a T90 housing I saw on Ebay. Now I'm regretting it. Originally, I thought an underwater camera was the way to go (read Nikonos) but after talking to a few local dives shops, I think otherwise. The general consensus seems to be that underwater cameras tend to flood a LOT more often than housings do. I just purchased a housing for my digital camera and intend to get one for one of my film cameras once I see that I'll use it enough to justify the cost. Just my two cents... Chris

Hello group, So far all items have been perfect, I have purchased several FD gear on eBay (Canon A-1, Lenses, Autobellows, Speedlites 199A and 300TL...)... My last acquisition has been a T-90 body, the seller (I might post his nick if it's necessary) has a very good reputation, but maybe this time he will get a negative vote. Before purchasing the body I asked him about a cover (the Remote Control Socket Plastic Cover) that seemed to not be the original, he replied that was the original one...when I received the camera the cover wasn't the original, it was a metallic cover that didnn't fit in the socket (probaly from an EOS body), I replaced that metallic cover with a T50 plastic cover, and fits perfectly (as in the T90 brochure photogrpahs). This is a minor problem, but it represents the first signs of the seller of ignorance or his desire to sell it rapidly.

But I´m really worried about other facts: · I have read in the manual, that using the viewfinder display selector (inside the palm wing), you can illuminate the viewfinder information on the right (the blue display) pressing half-way the shutter button. I have done this, and only the LCD display lit, the blue display remained dark, too dark, unable to see it on a dark enviroment. I can only read the blue display if I have light available at the illumination window...How can I fix that? Is is easy?

· My last observation is about the camera mount (the silvered metallic piece), I had observed long ago, that my T50 had looseness in that piece which caused the lens to rotate a slight every time a picture was taking...My recently purchased T90 body seems to have a slight looseness in that piece (although the lens doesn´t seem to rotate)...Is it normal? It will get worst? How to fix it? (My Canon A-1 mount remains firmly, it seems that this problem in T series cameras is due to the plastic an metallic combination body, I suposse...) thank you!

Hi I am looking to purchase a Canon T90 Battery holder. My preference is for a new item but a mint condition used would be acceptable. Can anyone help?

Ashiq, I have seen this problem 5 or 6 times in the past and it has been either a broken lcd or the contacts have actually been rubbed off of the lcd itself. The lcd makes contact with the main flex via 2 flexible connectors that appear to eventually "erase" or rub away the contacts on the underside of the lcd. As far as I know you have to replace the lcd itself. I have done this procedure several times with excellent results. Any camera shop should be able to do this if you can get the part. Regards, Terry

Ashiq - Could be nothing more than a burned out LED. You need to find a repairman to replace it. Ken

Incze, I think the answer is that you're out of luck. CHeck out this web site for an explanation of the DX codinig on the film caniater. (http://www.members.aol.com/Dalphotopr/dx.htm) If you go to the next higher frame count (48 according to the above site) when you get to your thirty-ninth or fortieth frame you run the risk of the T-90 pulling the film completely out of the canister. Given the small incremental cost of the two or three extra frames, I wouldn't worr about it. TomR.
